Tuinstra and Deane play game of the season in Eagles win over Aces

Sheffield Franchise league Report 14/2/19

Black Eagles continue dominance despite missing players
The SFL has six league match weeks left and with limited time could the Railway men or the panthers close the gap on defending champions Black eagles. Good news for the Railway men was that the academicals couldn’t field a side so due to the technicalities earned a 6-0 victory.
Black eagles vs Newbold Aces
A number of players such as John Walton, Trevor Burkhill and Owen Cubitt were missing for the game at the Woodbourne Hotel but due to the strength in depth for the Black Eagles this was going to be no walkover from the defending champions….
Captain Jason Burkhill was first up against the very experienced Ian Speed. Jason although lost 3-0 put in a good effort against a very much more active Mr Speed to give the Newbold aces the lead. Second match was between Young Tom Briggs against this season’s 170 supremo Trev Tye. Tom was straight out the blocks and too strong for Mr Tye in a routine display of steady darts and great finishing leaving the tie all square.
Match of the tie was arguably going to be this one in Jelger Tuinstra against Wes Deane which didn’t disappoint as Jelger took the first leg with a 21 darter, Deane replied with a 18 darter, Jelger in turn hit a 18 darter back and more impressively Mr Deane took a 135 out in 15 darts. Match went all the way to the decider but it was the Dutchman who showed his class and bottle with a 17 darter in a very important game.
Final singles game in the tie as former Yorkshire county star Steve Briggs stepped up to the oche looking composed to at least secure the point against Dave Belfitt . In normal Briggs fashion the game was over in a flash as the lean looking ex county player took the game 3-0.
To the ever important and tactical pairs at this stage of the game where Jason Burkhill went Dutch with Jelger Tuinstra against their respective singles opponents Ian Speed and Wes Deane. The Newbold Aces really needed to get back into the game and with that took a 2-0 victory to set up a crucial final pairs.
The experienced pair duo of Tom and Steve Briggs took on Trev Tye and Dave Belfitt and it was the Black Eagles who took the match 4-2 as the experienced Rotherham Friday night pair who took the game 2-0. This was a fantastic result for the Eagles where the captains match order, the tight third singles game and Eagles power played a part.
Official Scorecard Woodbourne Black Eagles 4-2 Newbold Aces
Jason Burkhill 0-3 Ian Speed

Chris Keane who has been left out the singles in recent weeks showed Captain Mick Hulley his worth with a 3-0 victory over talented Laura Taylor to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.
Mick Bower has been a revelation of a signing for the Wolves this season with some credible performances and needed to perform against Panthers captain Mick Hulley! The tie went all the day with Mick Bowers hitting a 180 and ‘Potter checking out a 101 checkout but it was Mr Bower who took the game to keep the Wolves in the game.
Battle of the bar! In the final singles game landlord of the Woodbourne and Panthers play Patrick Meeson took on brighton’s future number one Kev Bird but with a ‘oh dear’ and experience the former development league champ Mr Meeson breezed past Mr Bird 3-0 which started proceedings with a 20 dart leg. 3-1 THE PANTHERS.
Much like the other tie at the Woodbourne Hotel, the pairs were crucial…
Pete Daffin partnered Laura Taylor against Patrick Meeson and Chris Keane. The Wolves pairs pulled one back to make the scoreline 3-2 in favour of the panthers leaving the deciding pair for either a draw or a victory for the Panthers.
Russ Simons and Mick Hulley took on the pair of Mick Bower and Kev Bird where both individuals in the pair had mixed success in there respective singles games.
