Tuinstra and Deane play game of the season in Eagles win over Aces

Black Eagles continue dominance despite missing players
The SFL has six league match weeks left and with limited time could the Railway men or the panthers close the gap on defending champions Black eagles. Good news for the Railway men was that the academicals couldn’t field a side so due to the technicalities earned a 6-0 victory.
Black eagles vs Newbold Aces
A number of players such as John Walton, Trevor Burkhill and Owen Cubitt were missing for the game at the Woodbourne Hotel but due to the strength in depth for the Black Eagles this was going to be no walkover from the defending champions….
Captain Jason Burkhill was first up against the very experienced Ian Speed. Jason although lost 3-0 put in a good effort against a very much more active Mr Speed to give the Newbold aces the lead. Second match was between Young Tom Briggs against this season’s 170 supremo Trev Tye. Tom was straight out the blocks and too strong for Mr Tye in a routine display of steady darts and great finishing leaving the tie all square.
Match of the tie was arguably going to be this one in Jelger Tuinstra against Wes Deane which didn’t disappoint as Jelger took the first leg with a 21 darter, Deane replied with a 18 darter, Jelger in turn hit a 18 darter back and more impressively Mr Deane took a 135 out in 15 darts. Match went all the way to the decider but it was the Dutchman who showed his class and bottle with a 17 darter in a very important game.
Final singles game in the tie as former Yorkshire county star Steve Briggs stepped up to the oche looking composed to at least secure the point against Dave Belfitt . In normal Briggs fashion the game was over in a flash as the lean looking ex county player took the game 3-0.
To the ever important and tactical pairs at this stage of the game where Jason Burkhill went Dutch with Jelger Tuinstra against their respective singles opponents Ian Speed and Wes Deane. The Newbold Aces really needed to get back into the game and with that took a 2-0 victory to set up a crucial final pairs.
The experienced pair duo of Tom and Steve Briggs took on Trev Tye and Dave Belfitt and it was the Black Eagles who took the match 4-2 as the experienced Rotherham Friday night pair who took the game 2-0. This was a fantastic result for the Eagles where the captains match order, the tight third singles game and Eagles power played a part.

Captain Pete Daffin faced Russ Simons in a quality game where it was the tall man who threw small arrows who got the better of ‘Super Daffs’ as both trades 180s against eachother, Pete with a 20 dart leg and Russ with a 18 dart leg giving the Panthers the perfect start.
Chris Keane who has been left out the singles in recent weeks showed Captain Mick Hulley his worth with a 3-0 victory over talented Laura Taylor to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.
Mick Bower has been a revelation of a signing for the Wolves this season with some credible performances and needed to perform against Panthers captain Mick Hulley! The tie went all the day with Mick Bowers hitting a 180 and ‘Potter checking out a 101 checkout but it was Mr Bower who took the game to keep the Wolves in the game.
Battle of the bar! In the final singles game landlord of the Woodbourne and Panthers play Patrick Meeson took on brighton’s future number one Kev Bird but with a ‘oh dear’ and experience the former development league champ Mr Meeson breezed past Mr Bird 3-0 which started proceedings with a 20 dart leg. 3-1 THE PANTHERS.
Much like the other tie at the Woodbourne Hotel, the pairs were crucial…
Pete Daffin partnered Laura Taylor against Patrick Meeson and Chris Keane. The Wolves pairs pulled one back to make the scoreline 3-2 in favour of the panthers leaving the deciding pair for either a draw or a victory for the Panthers.
Russ Simons and Mick Hulley took on the pair of Mick Bower and Kev Bird where both individuals in the pair had mixed success in there respective singles games. With experience on there side it was Mick Hulley and Russ Simons who wrapped up the tie for the Panthers with a 2-0 win and a Panthers 4-2 overall victory.

Midland Warriors vs Punchbowl Pussies 


Bottom of the table Midland Warriors had a tough home fixture after only just losing 4-2 last week against a solid Punchbowl team. The first two games were drawn and already became crucial as the warriors top two players for the season respectively came against Steve Caley and Mick Swift. Ian Webster squared up against Steve Caley and the game went all the way in a match where Mr Caley stormed into a 1-0 lead with a 18 darter but the stubborness of Mr Webster he still managed to pull it back. The most improved player this season for the Pussies settled the tie with a 17 dart leg and gave the Punchbowl an important 1-0 lead.
Second game came down to Ste ve Newton to pull it back for the Warriors against Captain Mick Swift and it came down to another 3-2 scoreline but unfortunatly for Steve Newton(21 dart leg) with the passion of valentines day on Mr Swift’s side he scraped through with a 20 dart leg to put the his side 2-0 up.
Third and Fouth games were James Thomas against Paul Brittle and Alex Sporston vs Nicola Warne where the Midland just needed one game to keep themselves in the tie going into the pair but unfortunatly for the warriors both players would fall victim to a 3-0 loss.
Punchbowl guarenteed the victory at 4-0 , the Warriors seeked pride in there pairs games but would once again fall victim to Punchbowl. Tom Wright and Mick Swift beat Angie Brittle and Steve Newton. James Thomas and Steve Caley beat Barry Brittle and Ian Webster. 6-0 to the Punchbowl Pussies.

To open week 15 of the Sheffield Darts Franchise League we're at the University Arms as two teams who are locked together on 30 points go head to head as the Academicals take on the Aces.

It was the Aces Mick Smith who started the night well as he recorded a maximum against opponent Conall Doughty on his way to a win in three to get the Aces off the mark. 

Academicals hit back quickly in game two as Stephen Godfrey took control of the match against Ian Speed which secured him another 3-0 win. 

In game three it was the Uni lads who took the lead through Adam Warner in another contest that finished by the same 3-0 scoreline against Danny Wilks with Warner taking out a 135 finish in the process to put the Uni in front. 

It didn't take long for the Aces to pull it level again in the final singles as Trevor Tye took out Ste Smith in also in three legs for the fourth consecutive match to draw the scores level at two each.

In the opening pairs saw Smith and Speed get took to a decider against Warner and Will Pollard as it was the Aces duo who held their nerve to make it 3-2 and give the Aces a chance of victory.

It wasn't to be though this time for the Aces as Ben Tomlinson and partner Godfrey rescued a draw for the Academicals after taking out duo Steven Caley and Tye in two to finish the night all square at 3-3 which kept the team's level on points in the table. 


801 League

To finish it was a close 801 match which saw Aces Speed, Tye and Smith win it by a 16 point margin over Warner, Tomlinson and Smith.

We're up at the Woodbourne Hotel in a match which saw third place Panthers looking to put pressure on second place face a Cutlers side who sit mid-table but aren't too far off tonight's opponents.

It was the Cutlers who went ahead through Matt Pryor as he recorded a 3-0 win over Pat Meeson taking out a 21 dart leg to win the game.

In a close battle in the game saw Stuart Halliwell take a 2-0 lead over Richard Honeyman, but Honeyman hit back recorded a maximum on his way to tie the scores at two each but Halliwell held out as he won the decider to make it two for the Cutlers.

Panthers started to make a comeback through Russ Simons which saw him take out legs of 20 and a 21 as well as a 180 to defeat Darren Daly in three legs.

Micky Hulley and Peter Bell went all the way in the final singles as each throw went with the darts as Bell took out a 21 dart leg in the fourth to keep him in the game but Hulley won the last leg shootout to make it two each going into the pairs.

In the pairs it was the Cutlers team who gave themselves the best possible chance of victory as Peter Bell and Sam Bowers won the decider against Honeyman and Chris Keane to make the score 3-2. In the deciding pairs game duo Simons and Hulley rescued a draw for the Panthers in a 2-0 win over Daly and Pryor to make the final score all square.


801 League

In a tight 801 match Panthers' Keane, Simons and Hulley won the contest by 8 points over Millson, Halliwell and Bowers to end the night.

Next up we're at the Station as the Railwaymen who sit in second place before tonight face a struggling Bears team who are at the opposite end of the table placed in second bottom and with the team's above them pulling away they need to pick up points.

In the opener Bears captain Antonio Cruz got off to a good start taking the opening leg against Steve Brittle but then he couldn't improve on it as Brittle got himself back into the match and secured a win in four. 

Up next Alan Jackson made it two for the home side as he strolled to victory against Pat Finney recording a 19 darter in the process to make it two for the Railwaymen.

In the third singles the Bears needed to get something as Brian Jones took on Pete Bramley in a game which saw every leg go with throw as Bramley took out legs of 18 and a 17 darter to secure the win in the decider to make it three for his team. 

Railwaymen's Gavin Pilling wrapped up the win early doors as he took out Mick Wood without conceding a leg taking the last leg out in 20 darts to make it four.

In the doubles, Railwaymen kept ploughing on as Pilling and Brittle won 2-0 over Jones and Cruz and in the other pairs Bears duo Wood and Finney managed an equaliser in their game with Bramley and Jackson but it was the Railwaymen pair who secured the whitewash which tightened their grip on second place.

Bears finally had something to cheer in the triples as Finney, Cruz and Wood sneaked a 5 point victory over Bramley, Jackson and Pilling to round off the contest.

In the final game of the week we're at the Midland as the Warriors who are rooted to the bottom take on a Wolves team who lie in fifth place six points off  second place. 

Up first Wolves captain Pete Daffin hit a 21 darter against opponent Ian Webster on his way to a cruising 3-0 win to get his team off to a perfect start. 

In the second singles "Hero" Steve Newton managed to pull the team's level as he defeated Laura Taylor in three legs of darts.

It was the Wolves who went back in front through M. Bower who started off with a 16 dart leg against Barry Brittle and Brittle had no answer back as Bower went on to secure a 3-0 win. 

Warriors captain Paul Brittle equalised for the second time for his side through a win in three over Kevin Bird heading into the pairs with it all to play for.

It was the Wolves that gave themselves a chance of the win as Daffin and Taylor recorded a 2-0 win over the Brittle's Angela and Paul. In the final singles the Wolves managed to pull off the win as Bower and Bird secured the victory in another win in two over Newton and Webster.

Eagles Win Thriller At The Railway

We start week 14 of the Red Dragon Sheffield Darts Franchise League at the Uni Arms with the Academicals taking on the Cutlers in a mid-table battle. 

It was the Cutlers who drew first blood as Millson took out a 20 darter on his way to a win in three over Ritesh Deo. 

In a tight second game Academicals Jack Lewis managed to pip Darren Daly in the deciding leg recording a maximum in the process to level the scores. 

Academicals took the lead after the third match with Adam Warner hitting a 17 darter which went a long way towards winning in four legs over Sam Bowers.

In the last singles Peter Bell and Conall Doughty went head to head which saw the opening two legs shared but then in the third Doughty went ahead and didn't look back as he fired in a 20 darter to win it in the fourth to make the score 3-1 to the Uni.

Cutlers fought back in the pairs as Bell and Bowers teamed up to secure a 2-0 win over Edson and Mike C to give them a chance of a draw in which they achieved through Halliwell and Millson who also won in two legs of of darts against Tom Wright and Stephen G to make the final score 3-3.


801 League

In the 801 league it was the Cutlers celebrating as the team of Daly, Halliwell and Millson secured a 76 points victory over Smith, Warner and Doughty.

Next up a Woodbourne derby took place as Panthers who are in the hunt for a top two finish take on a Bears side who are second bottom with the team's above them starting to pull away so they need something from this match. 

It didn't start well for the Bears as Mick Hulley put the Panthers ahead with a 3-1 win over Kelly Burkhill.

Woodbourne Landlord Pat Meeson made it two as he played well taking the lead over Brian Jones, after Jones equalised, Meeson went up a gear and stormed to a win in four legs to make it two. 

Panthers Richard Honeyman recorded a 21 dart leg on his way to a straight legs win over Bears captain for the night Tracy Bell. 

In the final singles, the Panthers secured the victory as Russ Simons took out Adam Chadwick 3-0 hitting another 21 darter for the match.

It didn't get any better for the Bears in the pairs as Mick Wood and Pat Finney went down in two against Chris Keane and Richard Honeyman and to round off a clean sweep Hulley and Simons won the deciding leg over Chadwick and Bell to give the Panthers the 6-0 win to put them level on points with second placed Railwaymen.


801 League

In the triples the Panthers team of Keane, Honeyman and Hulley took the victory by 200 points over Bell, Finney and Wood.

We're at the Station next as the top two collide with Railwaymen taking on runaway leaders Black Eagles. 

It was the home side who took the lead through Geoff Higgs in a thrilling match with Jelger Tuinstra. It started with Higgs taking the first leg with an 18 darter finishing with a 132 finish. Tuinstra replied with an equaliser followed by one of the best legs this season knocking in a 12 dart leg taking out a 155 of his own to take the lead, back came Higgs in the fourth leg knocking in a 19 to force a deciding leg in which Higgs took the victory with an 18 darter to put the Railwaymen in front in a fantastic first match on.

In the second game the Black Eagles hit back through "The Manic" Ryan Goffin as he took out legs of 16 and an 18 darter in a 3-0 win over Alan Jackson to make it 1-1.

Railwaymen's Glen Payne took the lead over Steve Briggs in the next game on but Briggs found his range to hit legs of 18, 20 and another 18 darter to secure the win to make it 2–1 Black Eagles.

In the last singles Gavin Pilling played well in his match with former World Champion John Walton hitting a 19 darter with pulled the scores level but he couldn't keep up the consistency as Walton took out an 18, 16 and then finishing with another 12 darter of the night with a maximum thrown in for good measure to put the leaders 3-1 up.

In the pairs the Railwaymen gave themselves a glimmer of hope as Higgs and Jackson won the final third leg over Tuinstra and Goffin to force a decider which saw Black Eagles pairing of "Turbo" Trevor Burkhill and Tom Briggs rounded off the win by defeating Pilling and Payne in two to make the final score 4-2 to the Black Eagles.


801 League

In the 801 match the Black Eagles team of Walton, Burkhill and Tom Briggs secured an 8 points victory over Pilling, Higgs and Jackson to complete the night.A thrilling way to end the last ever encounter by the two best sides in the league

In the final game of the week we're back at the Woodbourne in a mid-table battle between the Wolves and the Aces with the home side starting 3 points clear of their opponents before tonight's match.

Wolves M. Bower started off the night taking on Wes Deane, it was Deane who started the better taking the first two legs with second finishing on a 19 darter. Bower responded with a 180 giving him an advantage and with it taking the third leg to put him back in the match but it was over in the next leg as Deane took out a 17 darter to put the Aces ahead.

Up next Wolves captain Pete "Super Daff's" Daffin made light work of Trevor Tye securing a 3-0 win finishing with a maximum and a 21 dart leg to win to make the scores one each.

In a back and forth third game Aces Ian Speed took an early 2-0 lead over Laura Taylor who made a good comeback to make it two each forcing a deciding leg and with her form up she looked good for the win but Speed held his nerve to win the decider to put the Aces back ahead.


To round off the singles Wolves Kevin Bird went ahead in his match with Smith but it didn't last long as Smith found his range and took the game in four to make it 3-1 Aces.

In the pairs it was one way traffic as the Aces team of Deane and Smith secured the victory for the team as they won Daffin and Taylor in two legs. In the final pairs Speed and Tye also recorded a 2-0 win over Bower and Bird to make the final score 5-1 Aces which meant they leap-frogged their opponents in the table.
