Aces 1-5 Panthers

Week 7 of the Red Dragon Sheffield Darts Franchise League roundup started at the Newbold as the Aces took on the Panthers.

Aces started the night well as Mick Smith faced Panthers debutant Chris Keane in a game which saw Smith race two legs clear. Keane replied with a leg back in the third but Smith secured the win in four to put the Aces ahead.

In the second match on Panthers Richard Honeyman levelled the scores up as he defeated Ian Speed by a 3-0 scoreline.

Next up Russ Simons and Trevor Tye toed the oche in a game which saw both players get off the mark early doors. Simons then took the third leg to make it 2-1 then in the fourth Simons took out his best leg of the night with a 20 darter to win it which put the Panthers in front.

In the final singles Mick Hulley put clear daylight between the two sides as he won Dave Belfitt in three to make it 3-1 Panthers going into the doubles.

In the first pairs game the Panthers team secured the win and Chris Keane and Honeyman won the match in two over pairing Smith and Tye. Things didn't get better for the Aces in the final doubles as Speed and Belfitt fell short to Simons and Hulley by the same 2-0 scoreline to secure the Panthers 5-1 victory.


801 League

In the 801 match Newbold Aces managed to sneak a bit of revenge as Smith, Tye and Speed grabbed a 154 points win over Honeyman, Keane and Hulley to end a good night.



Black Eagles 5-1 Pirates

Marie Tuinstra 1-3 Sie Simmons

Over at the Woodbourne it was the turn of the Champions and leaders Black Eagles who have so far won every game taking on the Pirates.

Black Eagles Steve Briggs opened the night with a 3-1 victory over Tony Casril who managed to record an 18 darter for himself to pull a leg back but it was only a consolation as the home side took the lead. 

Ryan "The Manic" Goffin hit a max on his way to a straight three legged win over Lee Slack to double the Black Eagles lead. 

In the third match on Pirates Anne Simmons recorded the second 180 in consecutive matches but it didn't put off opponent Jelger Tuinstra as he took out a 17 dart leg to start and then he finished with a 19 to win it in four to make it 3-0 for the Champions.

Pirates pulled a game back in the final singles as Sie Simmons played well to record a 3-1 win over Marie Tuinstra to give the Pirates a slimmer of hope.

In the first pairs match Black Eagles secured the win as duo Tuinstra and Goffin won two legs to nil over Tony Casril and Sarah Gregory and in the other match Briggs and Trevor Burkhill also won in two legs over Sie and Anne Simmons to complete a 5-1 Black Eagles win. 


801 League

In the triples the Pirates pulled off a shock victory as Anne and Sie Simmons along with Lee Slack took out Tom Briggs, Trevor Burkhill and Marie Tuinstra by a 40 points margin to pinch the 801 win.



Cutler 3-3 Bears

SINGLES

Stuart Halliwell 3-2 Mick Wood
Andy Pike 2-3 Andy Smith

In a feisty game at the Cutlers it was third place home side facing a Bears team who have lost the last three going into this one. 

It was the Bears who drew first blood as Adam Chadwick recorded a 3-0 win over Peter Bell. 

After that opener we saw three consecutive five legged matches as Bears Adam Smith took the lead over Matt Pryor but it didn't last long as Pryor found his range and won the deciding leg to level the scores up.

Up next Mick Wood took the lead twice over opponent Stuart Halliwell as well as Wood hitting a 144 checkout in the third leg which put him on the brink of victory but back came Halliwell who after levelling a two each won the decider to put the Cutlers ahead. 

In the final singles the two Andy's Pike and Smith played another even game as Pike saw himself go one up then went in front again 2-1 and looked good for the win but it was Smith who held his nerve all the way and picked his moment to take out the winning double in the decider to draw the teams level at two each.

In the doubles it was Bears who put themselves on the brink of victory as Adam Chadwick and Tracy Bell won 2-0 over Bowers and Pete Bell, but it wasn't to be in the end for the away team in a match with high drama Cutlers Pryor and Pike won a deciding leg over father and son Andy and Andy Smith to rescue a draw for the Cutlers.


801 League

To finish off the night between the two teams it was the 801 match which saw Cutlers Bowers, Halliwell and Bell secure the victory by 13 points over Pat Finney, Mick Wood and Tracy Bell. 



Warriors 2-4 Academicals 

SINGLES

Nicola Warne 3-2 Steve Smith 
Paul Brittle 0-3 Tim Close
Steve Newton 3-1 Jack Lewis

We head to the Midland next up as the Warriors looking for their first win take on the Academicals. 

It was the Academicals Conall Doughty who put his team in the lead with a win over Barry Brittle in three legs. 

Up next Nicola Warne was looking to level up against Steve Smith who started with a 2-0 lead and looked set for the win but Warne showed fighting spirit which dragged her back into the game at 2-2 to force a final leg in which Warne completed her comeback to equalise for the Warriors. 

In game three the Uni team went back in front as Tim Close ran out a 3-0 winner over captain Paul Brittle.

"Hero" Steve Newton did well in his match as he came from 1-0 down against Jack Lewis to win it in four to make it all square again.

In a close pairs match it was the Uni team of Lewis and Doughty who defeated Newton and Warne in the final leg to win it 2-1 to put the Academicals one away from the win. 

Warriors Paul Brittle and Webster needed to to win to salvage a draw against Close and Smith but it wasn't to be as the Uni partnership won it in two to give the Uni a 4-2 win. 


801 League
Steve Newton/Paul Brittle/Ian Webster 795-801 Jack Lewis/Tim Close/Conall Doughty 

Academicals trio of Lewis, Close and Conall just scraped a six point victory over Newton, Paul Brittle and Webster to complete the night.



Wolves 4-2 Pussies

SINGLES

M. Bower 3-1 Steven Caley
Lee Birch 3-2 Thomas Wright

To end the nights round up we're back at the Woodbourne as the Wolves who are making a charge for the top take on the Pussies who are unbeaten in three leading up to this match. 

It was Wolves captain Pete Daffin who started his team on the best possible way taking out Alex Sproston in three to take the lead.

Pussies James "Tank" Thomas equalised soon after as he defeated Laura Taylor by the same 3-0 result.

Bower put the Wolves back in front as he won in four legs over Steven Caley.

In the last singles Thomas Wright came close to levelling up again for the Pussies but he went down to Lee Birch who secured a 3-2 win to give the Wolves daylight.

Onto the pairs where the Pussies gave themselves a fighting chance as Thomas and Caley won the deciding leg over Bower and Birch to force a deciding match. 

It was Wolves Daffin and Taylor who secured the Wolves victory as they won 2-0 over Wright and Sproston to make three wins on the trot for the home team which put them up to second place.


801 League
M. Bower/Lee Birch/Laura Taylor 801-719 James Thomas/Alex Sproston/Steven Caley

Wolves completed the night by grabbing the win in the 801 as Bower, Birch and Taylor won Thomas, Sproston and Caley by 82 points.
