Week 8 of the Red Dragon Franchise League started at the Newbold as the Aces who sit mid-table take on the leaders Black Eagles who have an 100% record after six games.

"Turbo" Trevor Burkhill started the night in fine form recording legs of 15 and 16 darts as well as a "Shangai" 120 finish against opponent Trevor Tye who had no response as Burkhill ran out a 3-0 winner.

In the next game Aces Ian Speed had no luck either in his game with former World Champion John Walton who put on a stunning display of darts taking out legs of two 14's and a 13 in between as well as three maximums finishing with a 102.4 average to win it in three legs of darts. 

Aces weren't to be put on by Burkhill and Walton's performances as Wes Deane hit back in the third game on hitting a max on his way to a 3-1 win over Tom Briggs. 

In the last singles Mick Smith tied the scores a two each as he defeated "The Manic" Ryan Goffin in a final leg showdown which saw the Aces head into the pairs on the up.

As the pairs got underway the Aces confidence grew and it showed when double act Smith and Deane opened with a 1-0 lead over Walton and Briggs, but the Black Eagles duo replied to level then in the deciding leg Smith and Deane couldn't live up to the first leg as the Black Eagles went 3-2 up. In the next pairs game it was simpler for Trevor Burkhill and Steve Briggs who won it in two against Speed and Tye to give the defending Champions a 4-2 win against a good Aces side.

Aces team got one over the Black Eagles in the 801 as Deane, Speed and Smith secured a 160 points win over Burkhill, Tom and Steve Briggs. 


Bears 6-0 Pirates

Over at the Woodbourne Hotel two out of the bottom three went head to head at 9th place Bears faced the Pirates who start a place below but level points. 

It was Mandy Slack who took the opening leg to start over Adam Smith but that's as good as it got for her as Smith found his form and took a 3-1 win to get the Bears up and running.

In the next game a close match took place between Adam Chadwick and Sie Simmons, Chadwick took the lead only to be pegged by as Simmons took out a 20 darter to go 2-1 up. Chadwick won the fourth leg to force a decider in which Chadwick won it to make it two for the home side.

Brian Jones and Lee Slack played out another five leg match up in similarity with the one before as Jones took the lead only for Slack to hit back and nudge in front. Jones took the fourth and then it was Jones who sealed the win in the final leg to put the team three up.

In the final singles Andy Smith produced some good darts in a 3-0 win over Anne Simmons to give the Bears victory before the pairs.

In the doubles the Bears kept the form going as duo Mick Wood and Pat Finney secured a 2-0 win over Tony Casril and Sarah Gregory and Chadwick and Jones defeated Anne and Sie Simmons by the same scoreline to complete a 6-0 win for the Bears.

Their was some consolation for the Pirates in the triples as Tony Casril along with Anne, Sie Simmons strolled to a 228 points win over Finney, Wood and Andy Smith.



Panthers 2-4 Wolves

In the other match taking place at the Woodbourne was an all Woody contest between fourth place Panthers and second place Wolves with just two points separating the sides before tonight. 

It was Wolves captain Pete Daffin to kick us off as he started with a 20 dart leg over Chris Keane. Keane couldn't keep up with Daff's as the Wolves captain went to secure a win in three to put the Wolves ahead. 

In the second game the Panthers equalised through Russ Simons as he defeated Laura Taylor without dropping a leg. 

Bower played well in his game with Richard Honeyman registering a maximum and hitting a 19 dart leg on his way to a 3-0 win to put the Wolves back in front. 

Panthers Mick Hulley levelled the scores again as he won Lee Birch in the fourth consecutive 3-0 scoreline taking out a 21 darter to win it and level the scores up at two each.

Onto the doubles where Panthers debutant Coyle partnered Honeyman but it wasn't the start he wanted as they went down 2-0 against Daffin and Taylor to put the Wolves one away from victory.

In the final doubles with the match on a knife edge Bower and Birch took on Simons and Hulley, the Wolves duo took the lead only for Panthers to level and force a deciding leg in which Bower and Birch snuck to victory for the Wolves to tighten their grip on second place.

801 League

In the 801 match it was the Panthers getting a bit of revenge as Keane, Simons and Hulley won it by 40 points over Bower, Birch and Taylor to complete the night. 



Pussays 6-0 Warriors

We head to the Punchbowl next up as the Pussays take on bottom of the table Warriors.

Night started well for the home team as Steven Caley went 2-0 up over Ian Webster who managed to pull a leg back but it was Caley who won it in four to open the scoring for the Pussays.

Up next Warriors Nicola Warne struggled against Glynn Harris who punished her as he won the game without losing a leg to make it two.

Pussays were on a roll as Mick Swift hit an 18 and a 21 darter on his way to a 3-0 victory over Paul Brittle. 

In the tightest match of the night Barry Brittle took on "Tank" James Thomas who took an early lead only for Brittle to over-turn it and go one away from the win but Thomas held out and forced a last leg shootout in which he won it to make the score 4-0.

Pussays were in command in the pairs as Swift and Caley secured a 2-0 scoreline over Ian Webster and Barry Brittle to make it five.

To secure the whitewash Thomas Wright and Harris paired up to defeat the Brittle's Paul and Angela in two to give the Pussays the 6-0 win.

801 League

Pussays completed the night as Thomas, Wright and Calsey won the 801 by 83 points over the Brittle's Paul and Barry as well as Ian Webster. 



Railwaymen 3-3 Academicals

In the final match of the week we head to the Station where the Railwaymen who are just starting to pick up form with two straight wins take on an Academicals team who start in fifth and are pushing for a top 3 place.

Things got off to a good start for the home side as Steve Brittle won a last leg decider against Jack Lewis to put the Railwaymen in the lead. 

Next up was Academicals, Conall Doughty who was looking to equalise taking on Glen Payne. Doughty took the first leg to put him in front. Payne hit back with a 17 darter to level. In the third leg Doughty himself hit a 21 dart leg to go back in front but Payne was quick on his heels to draw level and force a fifth leg in which Doughty hit a maximum which put him in the driving seat and he took full advantage taking it out in 20 darts to level the scores up.

In the third game on Gavin Pilling started well against Ste Smith hitting a 20 dart leg. Pilling continued that form through the game and Smith couldn't find an answer as Pilling won it in three.

In the last singles game on Railwaymen's Alan Jackson took the lead over Adam Warner but it didn't last long as Warner fired off three consecutive legs to grab the win and tie the match at 2-2.

In the crucial pairs match Academicals Doughty and Warner took out Payne and Brittle in two legs to give the Uni lads a chance of victory.

Railwaymen managed to rescue a draw in the final pairs as Pilling and Jackson  enjoyed a 2-0 success over Smith and Lewis to finish the meat at 3-3.

The 801 match to finish the night was a tight game which could've gone either way but it went the way of the home team as Pilling, Jackson and Payne won it on double 1 against Warner, Doughty and Lewis.

Week 7 of the Red Dragon Sheffield Darts Franchise League roundup started at the Newbold as the Aces took on the Panthers.

Aces started the night well as Mick Smith faced Panthers debutant Chris Keane in a game which saw Smith race two legs clear. Keane replied with a leg back in the third but Smith secured the win in four to put the Aces ahead.

In the second match on Panthers Richard Honeyman levelled the scores up as he defeated Ian Speed by a 3-0 scoreline.

Next up Russ Simons and Trevor Tye toed the oche in a game which saw both players get off the mark early doors. Simons then took the third leg to make it 2-1 then in the fourth Simons took out his best leg of the night with a 20 darter to win it which put the Panthers in front.

In the final singles Mick Hulley put clear daylight between the two sides as he won Dave Belfitt in three to make it 3-1 Panthers going into the doubles.

In the first pairs game the Panthers team secured the win and Chris Keane and Honeyman won the match in two over pairing Smith and Tye. Things didn't get better for the Aces in the final doubles as Speed and Belfitt fell short to Simons and Hulley by the same 2-0 scoreline to secure the Panthers 5-1 victory.

In the 801 match Newbold Aces managed to sneak a bit of revenge as Smith, Tye and Speed grabbed a 154 points win over Honeyman, Keane and Hulley to end a good night.

Over at the Woodbourne it was the turn of the Champions and leaders Black Eagles who have so far won every game taking on the Pirates.

Black Eagles Steve Briggs opened the night with a 3-1 victory over Tony Casril who managed to record an 18 darter for himself to pull a leg back but it was only a consolation as the home side took the lead. 

Ryan "The Manic" Goffin hit a max on his way to a straight three legged win over Lee Slack to double the Black Eagles lead. 

In the third match on Pirates Anne Simmons recorded the second 180 in consecutive matches but it didn't put off opponent Jelger Tuinstra as he took out a 17 dart leg to start and then he finished with a 19 to win it in four to make it 3-0 for the Champions.

Pirates pulled a game back in the final singles as Sie Simmons played well to record a 3-1 win over Marie Tuinstra to give the Pirates a slimmer of hope.

In the first pairs match Black Eagles secured the win as duo Tuinstra and Goffin won two legs to nil over Tony Casril and Sarah Gregory and in the other match Briggs and Trevor Burkhill also won in two legs over Sie and Anne Simmons to complete a 5-1 Black Eagles win.

In the triples the Pirates pulled off a shock victory as Anne and Sie Simmons along with Lee Slack took out Tom Briggs, Trevor Burkhill and Marie Tuinstra by a 40 points margin to pinch the 801 win.



Cutler 3-3 Bears

In a feisty game at the Cutlers it was third place home side facing a Bears team who have lost the last three going into this one. 

It was the Bears who drew first blood as Adam Chadwick recorded a 3-0 win over Peter Bell. 

After that opener we saw three consecutive five legged matches as Bears Adam Smith took the lead over Matt Pryor but it didn't last long as Pryor found his range and won the deciding leg to level the scores up.

Up next Mick Wood took the lead twice over opponent Stuart Halliwell as well as Wood hitting a 144 checkout in the third leg which put him on the brink of victory but back came Halliwell who after levelling a two each won the decider to put the Cutlers ahead. 

In the final singles the two Andy's Pike and Smith played another even game as Pike saw himself go one up then went in front again 2-1 and looked good for the win but it was Smith who held his nerve all the way and picked his moment to take out the winning double in the decider to draw the teams level at two each.

In the doubles it was Bears who put themselves on the brink of victory as Adam Chadwick and Tracy Bell won 2-0 over Bowers and Pete Bell, but it wasn't to be in the end for the away team in a match with high drama Cutlers Pryor and Pike won a deciding leg over father and son Andy and Andy Smith to rescue a draw for the Cutlers.

To finish off the night between the two teams it was the 801 match which saw Cutlers Bowers, Halliwell and Bell secure the victory by 13 points over Pat Finney, Mick Wood and Tracy Bell. 



Warriors 2-4 Academicals

We head to the Midland next up as the Warriors looking for their first win take on the Academicals. 

It was the Academicals Conall Doughty who put his team in the lead with a win over Barry Brittle in three legs. 

Up next Nicola Warne was looking to level up against Steve Smith who started with a 2-0 lead and looked set for the win but Warne showed fighting spirit which dragged her back into the game at 2-2 to force a final leg in which Warne completed her comeback to equalise for the Warriors. 

In game three the Uni team went back in front as Tim Close ran out a 3-0 winner over captain Paul Brittle.

"Hero" Steve Newton did well in his match as he came from 1-0 down against Jack Lewis to win it in four to make it all square again.

In a close pairs match it was the Uni team of Lewis and Doughty who defeated Newton and Warne in the final leg to win it 2-1 to put the Academicals one away from the win. 

Warriors Paul Brittle and Webster needed to to win to salvage a draw against Close and Smith but it wasn't to be as the Uni partnership won it in two to give the Uni a 4-2 win.

Academicals trio of Lewis, Close and Conall just scraped a six point victory over Newton, Paul Brittle and Webster to complete the night.



Wolves 4-2 Pussies

To end the nights round up we're back at the Woodbourne as the Wolves who are making a charge for the top take on the Pussies who are unbeaten in three leading up to this match. 

It was Wolves captain Pete Daffin who started his team on the best possible way taking out Alex Sproston in three to take the lead.

Pussies James "Tank" Thomas equalised soon after as he defeated Laura Taylor by the same 3-0 result.

Bower put the Wolves back in front as he won in four legs over Steven Caley.

In the last singles Thomas Wright came close to levelling up again for the Pussies but he went down to Lee Birch who secured a 3-2 win to give the Wolves daylight.

Onto the pairs where the Pussies gave themselves a fighting chance as Thomas and Caley won the deciding leg over Bower and Birch to force a deciding match. 

It was Wolves Daffin and Taylor who secured the Wolves victory as they won 2-0 over Wright and Sproston to make three wins on the trot for the home team which put them up to second place.

Wolves completed the night by grabbing the win in the 801 as Bower, Birch and Taylor won Thomas, Sproston and Caley by 82 points.

Railwaymen stoke the fire and back on track

We start week six of the Red Dragon Sheffield Darts Franchise League at the University Arms as fourth play third as the Academicals host the Wolves with just a pint separating the two sides. 

Up first was Uni's Conall Doughty taking on Wolves captain "Super Daff's" Pete Daffin in a contest which saw Doughty take a leg off Daffin but it wasn't enough as the Wolves captain hit top form taking out 14 and then a 12 darter to put his team ahead in a great display of darts by Daff's.

Wolves Mick Bower was next up and he put in another solid performance by a Wolves player defeating Ste Smith three legs to nil to make it two for the Wolves.

Academicals managed to fight back as Jordan Solllot went to a five leg match against Laura Taylor just scraping the game 3-2 to pull one back for the home side.

In the last singles Adam Warner drew the Academicals level after taking out John Lieber in four legs.

We head into the pairs tied level so it was anyone's game in the first doubles Wolves John Lieber and Lee Birch took out Liam Gray and Joe Hopkin 2-1 to put the Wolves in the decisive match and to finish Wolves captain Pete Daffin and doubles partner Laura Taylor ran out victorious over Adam Warner and Ben Tomlinson by the same 2-1 scoreline to give the Wolves a hard fought 4-2 win.

It was the Wolves team who ran out victors by 42 points over Warner, Doughty and Gray.

We're at the Woodbourne next up where the top two go head to head as the defending Champions Black Eagles take on the Cutlers with just two points separating them.

Black Eagles got off to a flier on the singles matches as "Turbo" Trevor Burkhill hit a maximum to start then rattled off back to back 15 darters to defeat Andrew Pike 3-0.

Up next Jelger Tuinstra took out a 14 dart leg in the second on his way to another 3-0 result over Stuart Halliwell to make it two for the home side.

In the third game on Cutlers Darren Daly took the opening leg against "The Manic" Ryan Goffin but that's as good as it got for the Cutlers man as Goffin reeled off legs of 20, 21 and then an 18 darter to win it to put the Black Eagles three up.

To finish the singles Cutlers Peter Bell faced Tom Briggs. It was Briggs who opened the game and took the lead. Bell levelled up the game hitting a max in the process but then Briggs went on to take a 3-1 win to give the Champions victory before the pairs go underway.

In the pairs Black Eagles partnership of Trevor Burkhill and Tom Briggs defeated Peter Bell and Matt Pryor in two and in the other pairs Tuinstra and Steve Briggs finished off Halliwell and Sam Bowers by the same scoreline to give the Black Eagles a whitewash victory.

In the 801 game the Black Eagles completed the clean sweep as Tom Briggs, Goffin and Tuinstra won Bowers, Pike and Pryor by 106 points.

In the other room at the Woodbourne we had the Panthers who had a player short taking on the Pirates with just two points separating the teams in the middle of the table. 

We start with the Woodbourne landlord Pat Meeson who found it tough going in his gam with Sie Simmons as Simmons took the match 3-0 to open the night for the Pirates.

Next up was Pirates Anne Simmons who raced into a 2-0 lead against Mick Hulley but she just couldn't finish off as Hulley came back to pinch a 3-2 win to pull a game back.

Panthers Russ Simons took on Lee Slack in the third singles game and got off to a good start taking a 2-0 lead. Slack replied with a leg back but Simmons won it in four to effectively tie the game up.

There were only one pairs game that took place and it was Gareth Chivers and Tony Casril for the Pirates looking to win it against Mick Hulley and Russ Simons. Panthers duo played well enough to take the match in two legs which rescued a draw for the home side.

To end the night was the 801 match as Pat Meeson, Hulley and Simons won it for the home team by a close 16 points over Sarah Gregory, Anne and Sie Simmons.

Over at the Punchbowl we had two evenly matched teams in action as the Pussies took on the Aces.

It was the Aces who started the better of the two as Wes Deane defeated Alex Sproston by three legs to one.

Up next "Tank" James Thomas were looking to level the scores up in a tight game against Ian Speed and he got off to a good start going one up, Speed equalised with a 20 darter then went ahead but Thomas didn't give in and managed to force a decider in which he won which made it one each.

In the third match Pussies Glynn Harris went head to head with Mick Smith in another five leg tussle. Smith took the lead but just like before Harris hit back to go 2-1 up. Smith levelled the scores again to force a fifth leg in which Aces Smith took the victory to put his team back ahead.

Match four saw the third consecutive five leg match as Pussies captain Mick Swift took on Trevor Tye. It was Tye who took the lead with the highest finish of 170 but it didn't last long as Swift equalled the scores then hit a 21 darter to go 2-1 up. Tye replied with an 18 of his own to make it two a piece then in the final leg Swift took the honours to draw the team's level again after the singles.

As the team's were locked together going into the pairs it was anyones match to win as Deane and Smith made sure it was the Aces in with a shout of the victory as they won 2-0 against Thomas and Harris, in the final pairs game Speed and Tye had a chance to get the victory for the Aces but the Pussies pairing of Caley and Swift saved the draw as they won the match also in two legs to end a very close contest with a well earned draw.

After that good contest it was time for the triples where the Aces team of Speed, Tye and Smith won by 199 points over Swift, Caley and Sproston. 



Railwaymen 5-1 Warriors

Onto the the final game of the weeks action where the bottom two teams face off at the Station as the struggling Railwaymen face the Warriors. 

Railwaymen's "Perfect" Pete Bramley got his team off to the best possible start as he grabbed a 3-0 win over Barry Brittle taking out an 18 darter to win the match. 

In the second game Warriors Nicola Warne was looking to level it up but Payne was too strong after he took out another 18 dart leg to go two up. Payne wrapped up the win in the next leg to put the hosts two up.

Warriors fought back in the third match as "Hero" Steve Newton won a five leg thriller against Alan Jackson which saw both players take the lead but it was Newton who held his nerve for the win. 

Gavin Pilling defeated Warriors captain Paul Brittle in the final singles in three to make the score 3-1 Railwaymen.

Warriors knew they had to win the next match to force a decider as Nicola Warne and Angela Brittle faced Railwaymen's Bramley and Payne but it wasn't to be for the away side as the home duo ran out 2-0 winners. In the other doubles Jackson and Pilling won Webster and Barry Brittle by the same score to give the Railwaymen a 5-1 win to shoot them up the table and it left the Warriors on five successive defeats to start the season.

In a tight triples match, Warriors team of Paul Brittle, Newton and Webster took the honours as they achieved a two point win over Pilling, Jackson and Bramley in the closest ever 801 game in the Franchise League.
