Black Eagles Stay Top But Allstars Close In

We start week 11 at the Uni Arms where the home team Academicals faced the Wizards with both teams still looking for their first wins of the campaign.

Lee Slack

(Match 1) Brad Clowery 1-3 Lee Slack

The night started well for the Wizards as Lee Slack faced Brad Clowery. Slack kicked off the night with back to back legs to give himself some breathing space, Clowery managed to put a leg on the board to get the throw back but Slack finished the game off with a 180 and finishing in 20 darts to give the Wizards the lead. 





Danny Hall
(Match 2) Danny Hall 3-1 Sarah Gregory

Next up was Danny Hall looking to equalise for the Academicals against Sarah Gregory. Hall started the game well winning the first leg on throw then breaking in the very next leg to go two up. Gregory had a mini fight back herself pinching a leg in the third but it was Hall who sealed the win to level the scores.


(Match 3) Ed McCosh 3-0 Tony Casril

It was Uni captain Ed McCosh up next as he faced the Wizards Tony Casril. Ed kicked the game off breaking the throw to gain the advantage in which he never looked like losing. Ed doubled the lead soon after then finishing quite convincingly to put the Academicals in the lead for the first time in the game.


(Match 4) Tom Wright 3-0 Mandy Slack 

As the Uni lads confidence grew Tom Wright faced Mandy Slack knowing that a win would guarantee at least a draw out of the game. Wright raced out of the blocks taking the lead, in the following leg he managed to break throw and Mandy had no answer as Wright settled the match quite convincingly to put the Academicals 3-1 up with two to play.


(Match 5) Dan Graves 0-3 Simon Simmons

The final two games of the night saw a monumental fight back from the Wizards. Firstly Simon Simmons saw off Dan Greaves after winning the first leg, Simmons broke throw in the second and struggled over the line to take victory. 


Michael Slack
(Match 6) Matt Royle 0-3 Michael Slack 

In the final match of the contest, Michael Slack started well by breaking throw to take the lead over Matt Royle, after a battle between the two players who both had double trouble it was Slack who managed to take victory and complete the comeback for the Wizards and rescue a battling draw in a game which was all about taking chances which left both teams still searching for that elusive first win.

Over at the Newbold third placed Vulcans with four wins out of the last five travelled to the Newbold to face The Aces who start the game in eighth and loooking to push up the table.


(Match 1) Andy Umney 3-0 Dave Ward

First up was Aces Andy Umney looking for a good start against Vulcans Dave Ward, Umney raced in front by breaking throw to gain the advantage, Ward tried to make a comeback but Umney was too strong as he took a 3-0 victory and put the Aces in front. 

Russ Lockwood

(Match 2) Rich Swainston 2-3 Russ Lockwood 

In the next game saw a close contest between Rich Swainston and Russ Lockwood, both men weren't giving an inch as they traded leg after leg holding their throws all the way until the decider where Swainston dropped off and that's when Lockwood pounced to take out the winning double to grab a 3-2 victory and level the scores after two games.





Anthony warne
(Match 3) Mick Smith 0-3 Anthony Warne

With the scores level at one a piece Mick Smith and Anthony Warne faced off as to who will give their team the upper hand, Warne took the lead with an hold of throw, in the second leg Warne kept up the pressure as he broke Smith to double the lead. Smith tried but in vain to make a comeback and Warne glided to victory 3-0 to give the Vulcans the advantage.


(Match 4) Neil Bradley 1-3 Steve Stacey

Neil Bradley and Steve Stacey was fourth on the oche, Stacey broke throw straight away to take the lead, Bradley responded with a maximum then finished off the leg to equalise, Into the third leg which saw the third consecutive break of throw as Stacey went back in front and this time he wasn't going to let it go as he rounded the game off taking out the winning double to give the Vulcans a 3-1 lead in the match.


(Match 5) Trevor Tye 3-0 Matt Grey

With the Aces trailing 3-1 it was up to Trev Tye to keep them in the game as he faced Matt Grey who was looking to win it for the Vulcans. It was Tye who started the better as he broke throw to go in front, Tye then held in the second to give him the edge which he then convincingly finished off Grey to force the contest into a decider.


(Match 6) Ian Speed 3-0 Jim Smith 

The final match of the night saw Ian Speed looking to complete the fight back against the Vulcans Jim Smith who was looking to finally win it for the Vulcans, Speed took off well racing into an early lead, in the second leg it was Speed again who broke throw to go two up, Smith tried to muster up a fight back but Speed managed to complete the comeback and rescue a draw for the Vulcans by winning three legs to nil.

Over at the Players Bar in Rotherham the All Stars who are on the back of a four game winning streak take that form into this game against second bottom Warriors.


Carl Wilkinson
(Match 1) Carl Wilkinson 3-0 Paul Brittle 

The night started with All Stars Carl Wilkinson against Paul'The Undertaker' Brittle. 'The Undertaker' started well hitting his first 180 of the league but that didn't faze Wilkinson as he took the first leg against the darts in 18. From then on it was all Wilkinson as Brittle tried to keep pace, Wilkinson hit back to back 21 dart legs with finishes of 108 & 95 to take the victory and put the All Stars in the lead. 


(Match 2) Darren Johnson 3-0 Nicola Warne

Nicola Warne was next up for the Warriors as she faced PDC player 'DJ' Darren Johnson, Johnson started off in fine form as he hit his first max of the night to take the lead in 13 darts, the next leg saw 'DJ' pile on the pressure steadily breaking the Warne throw in 18 darts, then Johnson rounded off a consistent performance hitting his second max of the night and winning the game in a convincing 19 dart leg to put the All Stars two up. 

Dave Copley

(Match 3) Dave Copley 3-0 Angela Brittle

The third match of the contest saw Dave Copley looking to keep the All Stars ball rolling against Angie Brittle, Copley was in no mood to let Angie have a chance on the night as he broke the throw in the first leg to set him on his way, the following leg saw the best of Copley as he fired in a 13 darter to double the lead, then finished off the match comfortably in 17 darts to put the All Stars 3-0 in front. 


(Match 4) Kenny Hoult 3-0 Barry Brittle 

It was up to Barry Brittle to keep the Warriors in with a shout but he faced Kenny Hoult who looked confident going into this game. Hoult started the better of the two taking the first leg to go in front, In the second leg on the Brittle throw Hoult upped his game to break and take a 2-0 lead and throw for the match in which he succeeded to take victory without dropping a leg to give the All Stars victory.


(Match 5) Tony Hull 3-0 Steve Newton

Game five saw a classy performance from Tony Hull as he kicked off with a 15 dart leg against the throw and a 108 finish to take the lead. In the second leg Hull turned up the heat by hitting a ton finish against the throw to double the lead, Newton tried to make a comeback throwing everything at his opponent even hitting a 180 of his own but Hull rounded off the game by hitting another 15 dart leg in a fantastic performance to put his team 5-0 up.


(Match 6) Tony Harper 3-0 Ian Webster 

The last game of the night saw Tony Harper looking to finish off the Warriors against Ian Webster, Webster started well and could've took the lead but Harper was lethal on the doubles to take the first leg, the following leg saw Harper blast home a 17 darter against the throw to set himself up in the final leg in which he duly obliged rounding off the perfect score for the All Stars who never dropped a leg all night keeping pace with the leaders. 


Panthers 1-5 Magic

Pat Meeson 3-0 Chris Markham 
John Schultz 2-3 Lester Bowers

Russ Simons 2-3 Lee Cushworth

Fifth play seventh at the Woodbourne as the Panthers take on the Magic with just 3 points separating the 2 teams before tonight's action in a game which saw both teams a man down.


(Match 1) Mick Hulley 2-3 Gav Markham 

We start with an exciting first game which went all the way as Panthers Mick Hulley faced Gav Markham, Hulley kicked off with a 21 dart leg against the throw to go in front, Markham replied with a max followed by an 18 darter to equalise, Markham then upped the ante taking the lead for the first time by finishing on 117 checkout, It was Hulley's turn to respond which he did managing to hold to take the first game of the evening into a decider in which Markham held his throw to finish cooly to win 3-2 and put the Magic in the lead.


Pat Meeson
(Match 2) Pat Meeson 3-0 Chris Markham 

Next up was the Woodbourne landlord Pat Meeson looking to level the scores against Magic's Chris Markham. The game started steadily for both players but it was Meeson who grabbed the lead. The second leg saw the game spring into life as Meeson hit a max against the throw then followed it up by taking out a brilliant 14 dart leg from the Woodbourne gaffer which set himself up to run riot in the third leg, winning the game in 20 darts to give Markham no chance and level the scores up after two games.


(Match 3) John Schultz 2-3 Lester Bowers

John Schultz and Lester Bowers kick off match three with the scores level in a game which promised to be too close to call. Schultz started the better of the two players taking the first two legs and hitting a 130 checkout in the process, that was then the catalyst for Bowers to kick in which he did after pulling a leg back, Bowers then proceeds to break the Schultz throw which set up a thrilling deciding leg which saw Bowers complete the comeback winning the final leg in 21 darts to complete a remarkable turnaround and put Magic back in front.


Steve Marfleet
(Match 4) Mick Wood 0-3 Steve Marfleet 

With the score 2-1 to the Magic and with just five games been played on the night this match between Mick Wood and Steve Marfleet was crucial. Marfleet kicked off DJ Smile like with a break of throw to take the lead, Wood was looking for any sort of fight back and as he tried Marfleet took out a ton to go two up then in the third leg on Wood's throw Marfleet took victory by hitting a 17 dart leg and a ton finish to give the Magic victory which put them up to fifth in the table.


(Match 5) Russ Simons 2-3 Lee Cushworth 

In the fifth and final game, Russ Simons was looking to pull a game back against the Magics Lee Cushworth. In the first leg Simons kicked off with a break of throw to go one up, 'Cushy' quickly equalised with a break of his own, the next leg saw the first hold when Cushworth took the lead but back came Simons levelling up with a 21 darter to take the final game into a decider which saw Cushworth respond by wrapping up the win in a game which saw both men break each other's throws in a match where it was a lot closer than the 4-1 scoreline suggests and the result saw the Magic leapfrog the Panthers into fifth in the table.

The runaway leaders Black Eagles faced a trip to the Cumberland to play a Sausages side who have lost 3 on the bounce and are sliding down the table in sixth at the start of play.


(Match 1) Matt Pryor 0-3 Tony Darlow

The first match of the night saw Sausages Matt Pryor kick off against Tony "The Tiger" Darlow. "The Tiger" started off steady taking the lead with a 21 dart leg to loosen the arm, On the Pryor throw Darlow upped his game and broke the throw in 14 darts to take command of the game, In the third and what was the final leg 'The Tiger wrapped up the win by finishing in 18 darts to put the leaders ahead.


(Match 2) Ben Beardmore 0-3 Pete Daffin 

Onto the second game which saw two quality step up onto the oche as Ben "Boom" Beardmore faced Pete "Super Daff's" Daffin of the Black Eagles. In the first leg Daffin took the lead breaking throw in 18 darts and from then on just got better and better as he rifled home two 180's along with winning comfortably in 16 & 14 dart legs to double the Black Eagles lead.


John Walton
(Match 3) Ben Dolman 0-3 John Walton 

Former World Champion John 'Boy' Walton was next up as he faced Ben Dolman who was looking to keep his team in with a shout. Walton got in front in the first leg with a 21 darter on throw and a 100 c/o, Walton followed that up by convincingly winning Dolman with back to back 17 dart legs with a maximum thrown in for good measure as he fired the Black Eagles 3-0 up on the night with another 100 c/o.


(Match 4) Steve Ewington 0-3 Trevor Burkhill 

With the Sausages three down Steve Ewington stepped up knowing he needed to get something out of the game as he faced 'Turbo' Trevor Burkhill, in the first leg 'Turbo' powered himself in front with a 16 dart leg against the throw. The confidence was brimming from then on as Trev doubled his lead in 18 darts to take full control of the contest. He finally won the match with his best leg of the night rounding it off in 15 darts to secure the victory for the Black Eagles as well as throwing in a 140 checkout for good measure but was pushed all the way by a very talented Steve Ewington.

Marc Ellis

(Match 5) Mark Ellis 3-1 Dave Hemsworth 

In the fifth match with victory already secured for the Black Eagles, Dave Hemsworth played Mark "Tiny" Ellis. The match started off with consecutive breaks of throw which made the game 1-1. Then Ellis raced in front hitting a 20 dart leg to take control in which he took full advantage of and won the game in the fourth leg to grab a consolation for the Sausages.


(Match 6) Pete Bell 2-3 Owen Cubitt

The pub landlord of the Cumberland was last on in Pete Bell as he faced young star Owen "Ice" Cubitt. The match started off with good consistency from both players not giving any advantage as both men held throw for four consecutive legs, when it finally got to the final leg of the night it was the landlord that cracked and young Cubitt seized the opening and took out the winning double to take a 3-2 victory and give the Black Eagles an overall 5-1 win.

In the final match of the night saw the Woodbourne Wolves looking to get out of the bottom three face a tricky tie against the Railwaymen who are unbeaten in six.


(Match 1) Steven Naisbitt 0-3 Jordan Payne

The night started with Wolves Steve Naisbitt up against young gun Jordan Payne, It was Payne who started the brighter of the two players as he raced into an early lead, he then followed that up by hitting a maximum along the way to doubling the advantage against throw and in the third and final leg saw Payne finish off hitting the winning double to put the Railwaymen in the lead.


Tom Gurran
(Match 2) Austin Stebbings 1-3 Tom Gurran 

With the Railwaymen one up another two youngsters stepped up as "The Inferno" Tom Gurran faced Austin Stebbings. Things didn't get off too well for Stebbings as Gurran took the lead against the throw. In the second leg 'The Inferno" turned up the heat as he went two up and looking comfortable. Stebbings pulled a leg back to give Gurran something to think about but young Tom wrapped up the win in the fourth leg to give the Railwaymen a 2-0 lead.




(Match 3) Simon Sawford 3-2 Mark Gurran

In the third match saw Wolves Simon Sawford looking to pull it back for the Wolves against Mark Gurran in a tight affair which saw very good darts from both players. The game started with both men holding throw in the opening exchanges. Gurran then took a 2-1 lead which put him in the driving seat but Sawford weren't finished as he pushed his was back into the game equalising in the fourth leg to force a decider in which Gurran had the darts but it was Sawford who took out the double to secure a 3-2 victory in a game which was too close to call and it brought the Wolves back into it.


(Match 4) Pat Finney 0-3 Martin Scott

Fourth match on was Martin Scott of the Railwaymen looking to derail the Wolves chances as he took on Pat Finney. Scott started the better of the two players and took the first leg with ease against the throw, Finney tried to muster his way back into the game but Scott was just too consistent for him as Scott ran away with match and took a 3-0 victory to put the Railwaymen 3-1 up with two games remaining. 


(Match 5) Ricardo Cruz 0-3 Pete Bramley

Ricardo Cruz and Pete Bramley faced off in the fifth game of the evening with Cruz knowing he needed a win to keep the Wolves in with a shout of getting a draw but he faced a tough competitor in Pete 'Perfect' Bramley. In the first leg Bramley had the darts in which he held well to go in front. The second leg followed in the same pattern as the first as Bramley broke the Cruz throw to double the lead, Bramley were never going to let this lead slip as he won the match with a 19 dart leg to cap off a good performance and give the Railwaymen the victory with one to play. 


Tom Sawford
(Match 6) Tom Sawford 3-1 Gav Pilling 

In the final game of a tough night for the Wolves, Tom "Shooter" Sawford took on Gav Pilling. The match started with a break of throw which put Pilling one up but "Shooter" broke straight back to level the scores. In the third leg Sawford took the lead for the first time which boosted his confidence in which he took on to the next leg in which he finished off the night winning with a 20 dart leg to win 3-1 but the night belonged to the Railwaymen as they come away with a 4-2 victory and extend their unbeaten run to 7 games.
