Red Dragon Sheffield Darts Franchise League (Week 13)

Aces 1-5 Railwaymen

We start week 6 of the Red Dragon Sheffield Darts Franchise League at the Newbold as mid-table Aces take on Railwaymen who were looking to cement second place themselves.

It was the Aces who got off to a flying start as Wes Deane set off with a 19 darter against Geoff Higgs. Deane doubled his lead soon after and looked comfortable. Higgs pulled one back with a 19 dart leg of his own but it was Deane who raced to victory in 16 darts to put the Aces ahead. 

In the next singles Steve Brittle was in steady form as he recorded a 3-0 win over Trevor Tye to equalise for the Railwaymen.

In a good battle in the third game Alan Jackson took on Mick Smith and found himself 2-0 up breaking throw but Smith replied in kind to force the first decider of the night in which Jackson managed to hit the deciding double to put the away side in front. 

Gavin Pilling hit a 20 dart leg to start in his match with Ian Speed who responded with a maximum of his own but it was Pilling's day as he went on to win the game 3-1.

Ian Speed/Mick Smith 0-2 Alan Jackson/Geoff Higgs 

Railwaymen duo Brittle and Pilling secured the win in the opening pairs as they won in two over Deane and Tye. It was Jackson and Higgs who wrapped it up for the Railwaymen in another win in two over Speed and Smith to make the final score 5-1 to the Station to keep hold of second place.


801 League
Ian Speed/Trevor Tye/Mick Smith 801-797 Alan Jackson/Geoff Higgs/Gavin Pilling 

It was the Aces team of Speed, Tye and Smith who got a bit of revenge as they won the triples by a tight four point margin over Jackson, Higgs and Pilling. 



Bears 0-6 Pussies


SINGLES
Adam Chadwick 0-3 Steven Caley
Brian Jones 1-3 Mick Swift
Kelly Burkhill 1-3 James Thomas
Mick Wood 0-3 Thomas Wright

Over at the Woodbourne it was Bears who sit eight face a Pussies side in fifth with just four points separating the two sides in a one sided affair.

It was the Pussies Steven Caley who gave his side the lead as he won Adam Chadwick in straight legs hitting a 21 dart leg to win the match. 

Up next Brian Jones took the lead with a 20 darter to start against Mick Swift who then found his range and won the match in four legs also hitting a 20 dart leg himself followed by a better leg finishing in 17 darts to give the Pussies a 2-0 lead. 

In the third game Bears, Kelly Burkhill threw some good darts against James "Tank" Thomas but it wasn't enough to put her opponent under enough pressure as Thomas secured a 3-1 victory to make it three.

It was all over after the fourth game as Pussies Thomas Wright wrapped up a 3-0 victory against Mick Wood to make it four for the Pussies.

It didn't get any better for the Bears in the pairs as the Punchbowl ran riot as Sproston and Caley achieved a 2-0 win over Jones and Finney and to finish off the Bears team it was Swift and Wright who also secured a win in two over ladies Tracy Bell and Kelly Burkhill to achieve a whitewash victory to go joint third in the table.


801 League
Patrick Finney/Mick Wood/Antony Dolphin 797-801 Alex Sproston/Steven Caley/Thomas Wright

In a neck and neck 801 game the Pussies trio of Sproston, Caley and Wright completed the set as they took out Finney, Wood and Dolphin by four points. 



Black Eagles 5-1 Panthers

We stay at the Woodbourne for another Woodbourne derby as the leaders and defending Champions Black Eagles take on fourth placed Panthers looking to close in on second place. 

Up first it was Black Eagles Tom Briggs who got the team off to a perfect start taking out Richard Honeyman in four legs to put the leaders in front. 

In a quality second singles Mick Hulley took "The Manic" Ryan Goffin all the way to a decider but he couldn't finish him off as Goffin produced legs of 21, 14 and another 21 to secure the win which made the score 2-0 Black Eagles.

In another five leg contest Panthers, Russ Simons and youngster Owen Cubitt went toe to toe as Simons took the lead. Cubitt replied by equalising then taking out a 20 darter to nudge ahead. Simons replied with a 20 of his own to force another last leg shootout in which Simons nicked it to pull one back for the Panthers.

"Turbo" Trevor Burkhill made it 3-1 Black Eagles as he produced legs of 19 and 20 darter in which secured a 3-0 win over old pal Pat Meeson which put the leaders in the driving seat.

In the opening pairs it was the Black Eagles who wrapped up the win as Burkhill and Briggs ran out 2-0 winners over Chris Keane and Honeyman and in the other doubles Hulley and Simons took the lead over Steve Briggs and Goffin but they couldn't finish it off as the Black Eagles duo got their act together and turned it around to win in three which gave the leaders a 5-1 win. 


801 League

Black Eagles secured the 801 victory as Tom Briggs, Cubitt and Burkhill secured a 16 point win over opponents Hulley, Honeyman and Simons to complete a good night of darts at the Woodbourne. 



Cutlers 5-1 Warriors

We head to the Cutlers next up as two of the bottom three teams go head to head as the Cutlers take on bottom of the table Warriors.

It was a tight opening game as Matt Pryer started with a 21 dart leg against Warriors captain Paul Brittle who managed to over-turn it and go 2-1 up by hitting his first 21 darter of the season but he couldn't finish off his opponent as Pryor equalised then won the decider to put the Cutlers ahead.

Next on was Millson making his Cutlers debut taking on Ian Webster and Millson gave a good account of himself as he registered a 3-1 victory to put his new side two up.

In the third game saw Darren Daly and Steve Newton produce a quality first leg as Daly hit a 180 but it was Newton who took the lead with a 16 dart leg and that knocked the wind out of Daly as Newton ran riot to win it in three and pull a match back for the Warriors.

Cutlers Peter Bell rounded off the singles as he took out Barry Brittle by three legs to nil.

In a tight doubles games it was the Cutlers celebrating as Pryor and Daly won husband and wife Paul and Angela Brittle in the deciding leg and just when the luck is going against you the Warriors Barry Brittle and Newton took the lead over Bell and Bowers but it didn't last as the Cutlers pair won the final leg decider to secure a 5-1 win. 


801 League

In the 801 the Warriors managed to nick it as Paul Brittle, Newton and Webster won the match by four points over Pryor, Bowers and Millson. 



Pirates 1-5 Wolves

Anne Simmons 3-1 Kevin Bird
Tony Casril 0-3 M. Bower
Sarah Gregory 0-3 Laura Taylor

In the final game of the week we head to the Wilton as second bottom Pirates host third in the table Wolves.

Up first Pirates, Sie Simmons gave a good account of himself taking on Wolves captain Pete Daffin as Simmons took out a ton finish to level in the second leg but Daffin then went on to win in four taking out a 116 checkout in the process to give the Wolves the lead. 

Next up the Pirates equalised through Anne Simmons as she took on Kev Bird,  it was Anne who took the lead but Bird quickly levelled. In the third leg Simmons went in front again then in the fourth she wrapped up the match making the score 1-1.

In the third singles Wolves, Bower put his side back in front as he beat Tony Casril without losing a leg.

Wolves Laura Taylor then put daylight between the two sides as she made light work of Sarah Gregory winning her match in three legs of darts to make the scoreline 3-1 Wolves.

In the pairs the Pirates partnership of Anne and Sie Simmons started well in their match with Bird and Bower nicking the opening leg to give the team half a chance, but it wasn't to be as the Wolves duo got their act together to secure the win in the last leg to give the Wolves victory. Captain Daffin and Taylor recorded a 2-0 win in there game against Casril and Gregory to secure a 5-1 win overall.


801 League
Anne Simmons/Sie Simmons/Tony Casril 801-674 M. Bower/Kevin Bird/Laura Taylor 

Pirates managed to win in the triples in solid fashion as Casril, Anne and Sie Simmons recorded a 127 points victory over Bower, Bird and Taylor to end the night on a high.
