After a long Christmas break we finally get back to the Sheffield Darts Franchise League action and up first we head to the University Arms which promises to be a close game as the Academicals who start the year in sixth face a Bears side who aren't that far behind in ninth but with only a point separating the two sides in the table.

Up first Conall Doughty got the Academicals year off to a flyer as he took down Bears captain Antonio Cruz in straight legs taking out a 19 darter in the process. 

Things went from bad to worse for the Bears in the next game as Luke Cowling doubled his team's lead defeating Patrick Finney by a 3-1 scoreline.

In game three Ritesh Deo played well to take out Mick Wood in four legs of darts to make it three in three for the Uni lads. 

It was down to Brian Jones to keep the Bears in the match and he set off well taking the first two legs over Jack Lewis. In the third and fourth leg Lewis found his range and got himself back in the game as he forced a nervy decider in which Lewis had the chance to win it for the Academicals but it was Jones who stumbled over the line to get a match on the board for the Bears as we head to the pairs.

In the pairs once again the Uni team had a chance to wrap up the match as Doughty and Deo faced Cruz and Jones as all players played their part as the match went to one each it was another opportunity for the Academicals to win but captain Cruz and Jones saved another match to force a decider.
In the final deciding pairs it was the Bears duo Patrick Finney and Mick Wood who completed the comeback from three down to grab a draw as they won Lewis and Cowling in two legs. 


801 League

In the 801 game the Academicals achieved the win as Cowling, Doughty and Deo won by a 60 points margin over Cruz, Wood and Finney to finish the night on a high.

Panthers 2-4 Railwaymen

In a top of the table clash at the Woodbourne Hotel it was third vs second as the Panthers faced the Railwaymen with just a point separating the two teams. 

It was the away side who got off to the best possible start as "Perfect" Pete Bramley who played well throughout defeating Pat Meeson in three legs. 

In a close second game, Panthers Richard Honeyman saw himself go in front twice against opponent Steve Brittle who managed to keep his cool and after equalising to make it two each it was Brittle who pounced and nicked the decider to make it two for the Railwaymen.

In the third singles it went down to another last leg shootout as Railwaymen's Geoff Higgs took the lead against Russ Simons, who then countered back to overturn the score in his favour, Higgs played well in the fourth leg to make it two each but it wasn't his night as Simons hit the winning double to keep the Panthers in with a shout. 

Panthers Mick Hulley took on Gavin Pilling in the final singles with a chance to draw the teams level but things didn't get off to a good start as Pilling took the opener. It was Pilling again who doubled his lead giving Hulley a mountain to climb and he never really kept close to Pilling as he ran out a 3-0 winner to make it 3-1 Railwaymen after the singles games.

In a crucial first pairs Pilling and Jackson knew a win over Meeson and Honeyman would give the team the victory and they went about their business in a positive fashion as they secured a 2-0 win to guarantee victory for the Railwaymen with one to play. In the final pairs Simons and Hulley worked well together as they pulled a game back to make the score respectable as they won Scott and Bramley in the decider but the night belonged to the Railwaymen as they secured a 4-2 win.


801 League

In the triples match it couldn't have been any closer as Panthers Hulley, Simons and Honeyman hit the winning double in a tight contest over Jackson, Scott and Brittle to win it by just two points.



Pussies 3-3 Black Eagles 

SINGLES

Mick Swift 0-3 Trevor Burkhill 
Tom Wright 3-0 Jason Burkhill 

Over at the Punchbowl it was the Pussies who sit fourth take on leaders Black Eagles who have a perfect 10 straight wins to defend.

It was the Pussies who took the lead through a good display of darts by Steven Caley as he hit two 20 dart legs against Tom Briggs who himself managed a maximum but it was in vain as Caley ran out 3-0 winner.

James "Tank" Thomas took the lead against Steve Briggs in the next game but couldn't keep the form going as Briggs came back to win it in four and record a 21 dart leg in the process to level the scores up.

Black Eagles found themselves in front for the first time as "Turbo" Trevor Burkhill made light work of Mick Swift hitting legs of 20, 17 and 15 darts as well as a 130 finish to put the leaders in front. 

In the fourth and final singles Tom Wright equalised for the Pussies in a 3-0 victory over Black Eagles captain Jason Burkhill.

Both teams couldn't be separated as the pairs kicked off as up next it was the father/son duo of Steve and Tom Briggs who gave the Black Eagles a chance of the win in a 2-0 victory over Thomas and Alex Sproston but in the decider the Pussies eared a well earned draw as Swift and Caley won it in two over the Burkhill brothers Jason and Trevor to end the defending champions run of ten  straight wins. 


801 League

It was the Black Eagles team of Trevor Burkhill, Steve and Tom Briggs who raced to victory in the triples taking out Thomas, Sproston and Wright by 36 points. 



Wolves 5-1 Cutlers

SINGLES

Lee Birch 1-3 Peter Bell

We end the weeks action back at the Woodbourne as the Wolves who sit fifth play seventh placed Cutlers with both teams looking to make a charge for he top three.

It was Wolves captain "Super Daff's Pete Daffin who kicked off the match against a steady opponent in Matt Pryor, it was Pryor who got off the mark with a 21 dart leg. Daffin levelled then took the third leg to nudge in front. In the fourth leg "Super Daff's" found some magic to win the match hitting a max on his way to a individual league record 11 dart leg and a ton finish to boot to put the Wolves in front. 

Wolves doubled their lead soon after as Bower played well to win by three legs to nil against Stuart Halliwell.

In the third game Laura Taylor made it three in three as she was took all the way against Darren Daly with both players going in front in the match it was Taylor who won the deciding leg to make it three for the Wolves. 

Peter Bell kept his team in the game in the final singles as he won Lee Birch by a 3-1 scoreline taking out a good 130 finish to reduce the arrears.

Sue Edwards/M. Bower 2-0 Darren Daly/Peter Bell

In the opening pairs Cutlers Bowers and Halliwell gave themselves a chance as they won the first leg over Daffin and Taylor but it was the Wolves duo who pushed on to win it which secured the Wolves victory. Edwards and Bower wrapped up the night with a 2-0 win over Daly and Bell to give the Wolves an overall 5-1 win to push them up to third in the table.

To finish off in the triples it was the Cutlers team of Bell, Daly and Bowers who got a bit of revenge as they won opponents Daffin, Taylor and Bower by an eight point margin.
