JORDAN PAYNE RATTLES IN THREE MAXIMUMS AGAINST POTTER IN TIGHT MATCH

We start week 7 of the Franchise League at the Academicals where the home side are 1 of 4 teams still in search for their first wins of the campaign up against a Vulcans team looking to break into the top 4. 

Match 1 (Thomas Wright 0-3 Anthony Warne)

Anthony Warne started the Vulcans charge by defeating Thomas Wright without dropping a leg to give his team the perfect start. 

Match 2 (Declan Parsons 1-3 Chris Grey)

In the second game of the night Daclan Parsons was looking to get an equaliser for his team but didn't get off to the best of starts when Grey broke the throw in the first then held with a maximum to take a 2-0 lead. After Parsons threatened a comeback with an 18 darter and a good high finish of 114, Grey managed to sail home hitting the winning double to win 3-1 and put the Vulcans 2-0 up. 

Match 3 (Connor Bowler 0-3 Steve Stacey)

Connor Bowler was up next in the third game of the night for the Academicals but had a tough battle on his hands against Steve Stacey as it proved when Stacey started with an 18 dart leg then following a 17 darter to break the Bowler throw straight away. Connor just didn't have the answer to Stacey's high scoring as Stacey finished off with his best leg of the night a 16 darter to wrap up a 3-0 victory.

Daz Layden (Vulcans)
Match 4 (Jonny Kirk 0-3 Daz Layden)

Jonny Kirk and Daz Layden was the fourth game on with Layden looking to wrap up the victory early doors and after started the game steady Layden broke throw in the first leg and they was no stopping him after that he held throw in the second and then turned on the style hitting a 15 dart leg to seal victory without dropping a leg to give the Vulcans an unassailable 4-0 lead.

Match 5 (Adam Warner 1-3 Matthew Gray)

The fifth match of the night Adam Warner was looking to get some points on the board for his team against Matthew Gray. The first two legs of the game saw both players hold throw with Warner hitting a 17 dart leg to make it 1-1, Gray then powered his way in front then against the throw managing to hit the winning double to win the match by 3 legs to 1. 

Danny Hall (Academicals)
Match 6 (Danny Hall 3-0 Phillip Lambert)

In the final game tie of the night with the Vulcans 5-0 up it was up to Danny Hall to give the Academicals a score on the board against Philip Lambert and he duly obliged after winning the first leg he managed to break throw then comfortably hold to win the game 3-0 and achieve some consolation points for the Academicals.

Second placed The All Stars travelled to the Milton looking to put pressure on the early pace setters Black Eagles. 

Match 1 (Chris Keane 0-3 Carl Wilkinson)

In the first game of the night Carl Wilkinson layed down a marker for the others to follow. The first two legs of the game were scrappy to say the least in which Wilkinson managing to hit a maximum to ease the tension. In the third leg Wilkinson wrapped it up with a 17 darter to give the All Stars the lead.

John Daniels (Allstars)
Match 2 (Gav Markham 0-3 Jonny Daniels)

Up next was Magic's Gav Markham looking to square it up as he faced Johnny Daniels. Daniels started the brighter after taking the first leg against the throw. In the second leg Daniels set it up after hitting a 180 he hit the winning double to go 2-0 in front. Jonny then rounded off the match hitting a 20 dart leg to give himself a 3-0 victory.





Tony Hull (Allstars)
Match 3 (Lester Bowers 1-3 Tony Hull)

Lester Bowers was next on for the Magic looking to get his team off and running as he faced an in form Tony Hull. Hull kicked off with a 20 dart leg and a 72 checkout to take the lead. Bowers then hit back with an equaliser to keep the game on throw. Hull then raced clear again hitting a 16 dart leg which knocked Bowers which led the way for Hull to take the fourth leg and win by 3 legs to 1.

Match 4 (Steve Marfleet 2-3 Terry Temple)

The fourth game saw a close contest between two quality players in Magic's Steve Marfleet and All Stars Terry Temple. Temple flew out of the blocks breaking throw straightaway with a 21 dart leg and a 112 checkout to go in front. Temple then held his throw to set up what looked liked a routine victory but Marfleet had other ideas after holding his own throw to bring it back within one leg then he managed to break the throw of Temple with an 18 darter and another big 114 checkout to force a decider in which this time Temple proved just too much for Marfleet to handle as Temple managed to win with yet another 114 checkout to seal the victory in what was a quality match up.

Match 5 (Chris Markham 2-3 Tony Harper)

Captain Chris Markham was next up trying to halt the All Stars juggernaut as he faced Tony Harper in a closely contested battle. Harper kicked off proceedings with a 20 darter to hold the throw then followed it up breaking the Markham throw straightaway to go 2 clear. Markham wasn't going to give up the ghost easily as he rallied hitting a 21 dart leg to break throw back then equalising in the fourth to bring the game into a deciding leg which saw Harper hit a maximum to take control and managing to fend off a great effort of a comeback from Markham but in the end Harper sealed victory with the winning double.

Match 6 (Paul Harris 0-3 Kenny Hoult)

The final match of the night saw Paul Harris face a tough task in defeating Kenny Hoult. Hoult started the steadier of the two players winning the first leg with a 72 checkout then he upped the ante and got himself into a rhythm in the second with an 18 dart leg and a brilliant 103 finish. Harris himself not doing much wrong with his scoring but he just couldn't match up to Hoult as he wrapped up the victory to give the All Stars a 6-0 win overall to keep the pressure on the leaders Black Eagles.


Panthers 3-3 Railwaymen 

Third in the table Panthers were looking to make inroads against an under-strength Railwaymen who have won two on the bounce before tonight's game.

Jordan Payne 3x180s(Railwaymen)
Match 1 (Mick Hulley 2-3 Jordan Payne)

We kick off with a tight game between Panthers Hulley and Railwaymen's Payne where every leg went with the throw and also went the distance Jordan Payne managed to get 3 maximums in the contest and the score was still only level at 2-2. As the game entered the deciding double to win the match both men missed 9 darts at the target but it was Jordan Payne on his fourth attempt to grab a 3-2 victory and put Railwaymen in the lead.



Brad Ellis (Panthers)
Match 2 (Brad Ellis 3-1 Andy Bradbury)

Brad Ellis was next up for the Panthers looking to level the scores against Andy Bradbury. Bradbury started with a 21 dart leg against the throw then that's when Ellis kicked into gear replying with a 21 darter of his own with the scoring (100, 100, 140, 98) to level the scores then Ellis continued the scoring in the third leg this time with an 18 darter (100, 96, 140, 93) on throw to overturn the deficit and then he secured the 3-1 victory in the fourth leg with some brilliant consistent darts.

Match 3 (John Schultz 0-3 Martin Scott)

In the third game of the night with the scores locked at one each John Schultz and Martin Scott locked horns to see who can put their team in the ascendancy. Scott kicked in taking the first leg then breaking the Schultz throw to get in the driving seat which Scott never let Schultz in as he ran away with a 3-0 victory to put the Railwaymen back in front.

Match 4 (John Lieber 3-2 Gav Pilling)

The fourth game saw a very even contest which had low legs and high finishes between Panthers' John Lieber and Railwaymen's Gav Pilling. Lieber kicked off with back to back 20 dart legs and a 96 checkout to race 2-0 in front. Pilling broke straight back with a 180 then followed that with an equaliser to bring the scores level and into a deciding leg which Leiber managed to hold out and take a 3-2 victory in a good contest between the two players. 

Match 5 (Mick Wood 2-3 Pete Bramley)
In the final game of the night due to the Railwaymen fielding five players and the Panthers being 3-2 up this was a decider between Mick Wood and Pete "Perfect" Bramley. Wood started off brilliantly with no signs of nerves on his part strolling into a 2-0 lead and hitting a 120 (Shanghai) finish in the process. Back came Bramley taking the third then breaking the Wood throw in the fourth to take us into yet another deciding game but this time it was for the match and it was heartbreak for Wood when Bramley managed to complete the comeback and secure the winning double for his team and rescue a 3-3 draw. 




Sausages 4-2 Wolves

An understrength and bottom team Woodbourne Wolves travel to The Cumberland to play a tough fixture in a fourth placed Sausages team who have tasted defeat just once so far this season.

Match 1 (Pete Bell 1-3 John Edwards)

We start with "The Landlord" against "The Captain" as Sausages Pete Bell played Wolves captain John Edwards. After the first 3 legs all going with throw it was Wolves captain who managed to make the breakthrough with a double 1, 1, double 1 finish to end a scrappy affair and put the Wolves into an early lead. 

Match 2 (Ben Dolman 3-0 Jon Smethurst)

Ben Dolman was next up for the Sausages as he faced Jon Smethurst looking to level the scores. Smethurst never really looked threatening as Dolman managing to secure a convincing 3-0 victory and level the scores at one a piece. 

Match 3 (Ben Beardmore 3-0 Ricardo Cruz)

In the third game of the night Ben "Boom" Beardmore faced Ricardo Cruz in a game which saw "Boom" break the throw with an 18 dart leg then he followed up with a solid 19 to go two in front. Ricardo tried in vain to reply but Ben managed to seal it taking out the winning double to take a 3-0 victory to put his team 2-1 up and guarantee his side the win.

Match 4 (Mark Ellis 1-3 Antonio Cruz)

Antonio Cruz(Wolves)
The fourth and final match of the night saw "Tiny" Mark Ellis up against the older of the Cruz brothers Antonio. Cruz kicked off with a break of throw in the first leg laying down a marker in which Ellis replied with a 20 dart leg to equalise but that's all he could show for his efforts as Cruz once again broke the throw in the third leg of the match and then in the fourth ran out the winner by 3 legs to 1 to make the matches on the night 2-2 but unfortunately for the Wolves they had to concede the remaining two matches to give Sausages a 4-2 victory and see them jump into the top 3 in the table.






Warriors 2-4 Aces

Newbould Aces travelled to the Woodbourne looking to pull away from the bottom four as 10th play 9th.

Sandra Webster(Warriors)
Match 1 (Sandra Webster 3-0 Dawn Willis)

We start with Warriors Sandra Webster up against the Aces Dawn Willis. Sandra started well breaking throw in the very first leg and she kept up that momentum all the way through the game. Willis just didn't have an answer as Sandra ran out a 3-0 winner to win her first ever game in the league to put the Warriors 1-0 up.

Match 2 (Jodie Bruce 0-3 Rich Swainston)

The second match of the night saw Jodie Bruce looking to put the Warriors further in front but standing in her way was "The Gruffalo" Rich Swainston who was in no mood to take this game lightly and it showed as he rattled in a 14 and 15 dart legs to win the game in a comfortable victory to level the scores.

Match 3 (Barry Brittle 0-3 Trev Tye)

With the game level at 1-1 up next was Warriors Barry Brittle against Trev Tye. Things didn't go to plan for Barry as he played well in patches but Tye took full control after taking the first leg and walked away with a 3-0 victory. 

Match 4 (Steve Newton 3-2 Neil Bradley)

In arguably the match of the night Steve Newton looking to equalise for the Warriors played Neil Bradley of the Aces. Bradley started brilliantly breaking throw in the first leg then held his own throw to take a 2-0 lead and looking comfortable at that point. Newton then started playing well and managed to pull a leg back then breaking back the throw in the fourth leg to put the game into a deciding leg which Newton managed to complete the comeback and defeat Bradley 3-2 to equalise for the Warriors.

Match 5 (Paul Brittle 0-3 Ian Speed)

The fifth and most crucial game was between "The Undertaker" Paul Brittle and Ian Speed with the scores level at 2-2 this was to make sure that victory for either men would guarantee the team won't lose overall. "The Undertaker" started like a rocket but after Speed took the first leg it was all downhill for Brittle as he just couldn't keep up with Speed and he ran riot with a convincing 3-0 victory. 

Mick Smith (Aces)
Match 6 (Nicola Warne 1-3 Mick Smith)

The final game of what was as close as the table suggested before tonight's matches was between Nicola Warne and Mick Smith. Warne was going into this knowing that a victory would salvage a draw for her team but she didn't get off to the best of starts as Smith broke throw in the very first leg and before you knew it Smith went 2-0 up but after a mini fight back from Warne. Smith managed to finish off the game winning 3-1 and by doing that given the Aces a battling 4-2 victory in a game which could've gone either way.




Wizards 1-5 Black Eagles

Wilton Wizards who were second bottom before tonight's game and searching for their first win faced a tough home tie against the league leaders and the only team to have a 100% record in the league in the Black Eagles.

Match 1 (Claire Thom 0-3 Charlie Stocks)

The opening match of the night saw young Charlie Stocks face Wizards Claire Thom. Charlie started well settling down early hitting a 22 dart leg to take the lead. Claire tried to keep in touch but Charlie was just too strong and ran out a 3-0 winner to open the Black Eagles account for the night.But Claire deserved something from the game as she played very well

Martin Pell (Wizards)
Match 2 (Martin Pell 3-1 Dave Hemsworth)

In the second game saw a Wizards fight back when Martin Pell faced Dave Hemsworth. Pell kicked off holding throw to take the lead but Hemsworth replied with a 19 dart leg to level proceedings. Pell replied with a 22 dart leg to go back in front and then he rounded off victory against the throw to win 3 legs to 1 and level the scores on the night.






Match 3 (Sarah Gregory 1-3 Jelger Tuinstra)

With the scores locked at 1-1 on the night, the third game saw Sarah Gregory face Jelger Tuinstra. Jelger started well hitting a 17 darter to take the lead. In the second leg Sarah hit back equalising with a solid 22 dart leg of her own and only been 22 after Sarah had been on a double after 12 darts with 4 solid ton plus scores. Jelger replied in kind in the fourth in another 22 darts to put him in the driving seat then Jelger wrapped it up in the fourth to take victory over Sarah who played a good game.

Match 4 (Des Moore 0-3 Tony Darlow)

Des Moore was up next for the Wizards against Tony "The Tiger" Darlow with both men struggling for from at the start with "The Tiger" eventually taking the first leg in 40 darts having been stuck on the dreaded double 1. The second leg saw what Darlow is capable of hitting a 15 dart leg to go two in front then in the third he managed to take the victory taking out the winning double in a 3-0 victory to give the Black Eagles a 3-1 lead with two to play.

Tom Briggs(Black Eagles)
Match 5 (Michael Slack 0-3 Tom Briggs)

The penultimate match of the night saw Tom Briggs looking to seal the game for the Black Eagles up against Michael Slack. Briggs kicked off well hitting a 22 dart leg in the first to go in front and then he just kicked on from their with both players playing good darts it was Briggs who crossed the line with a 3-0 victory and wrap up the win for the Black Eagles.






Match 6 (Lee Slack 1-3 Owen Cubitt)

The final game of the night saw Lee Slack face "Ice" Owen Cubitt. Slack took the lead as both players struggled for form at the start then it was "Ice" who found the grove equalising in 19 darts and in the third and fourth legs the youngster managed to run clear and win the match 3 legs to 1 to give the Black Eagles a 5-1 victory and keep the impressive 100% start in tact.
