Warriors and Wizards in Gridlock as Black Eagles clip the Allstars

We kick off this weeks Franchise League with Aces (without a win before this week) causing an upset defeating the Sausages who to date won every match so far this season.

Match 1 (Trev Tye 3-0 Ben Dolman)
The first game saw Aces Trev Tye race out of the blocks against Sausages' Ben Dolman hitting a 17 darter in the first leg of the night to set the standard. He then clinically took out the winning double in the second leg to go 2 clear before rounding the game off with a 20 dart leg to run out 3-0 victor and put the Aces 1-0 up.

Match 2 (Rich Swainston 3-0 Pete Bell)
Sausages landlord Pete Bell was up next looking to equalise for his team but in his way was an in-form Rich Swainston who wasn't holding any punches as he raced to a 2 leg lead with back to back 21 dart legs and then finished off the game without really been under any pressure from Bell.

Match 3 (Neil Bradley 1-3 Jimmy Haslam)
The third game of the night saw Jimmy Haslam trying to bring his team back in the match face Bradley. Haslam got off to the best possible start kicking off with a 21 dart leg to go in front but then Bradley quickly levelled the scores in the next leg. Haslam found his range in the third and fourth legs hitting a 20 followed by a solid 19 dart leg to win the game 3-1 and pull one back for the Sausages.

Match 4 (Ian Speed 3-0 Shaun Greenfield)
Captain Ian Speed was up next for Aces as he faced "Croc" Shaun Greenfield and Speed raced out of the traps going 1-0 up as "Croc" tried to fight back but couldn't get himself going and he was in deep trouble after the second leg and didn't recover as Speed played well achieving a 3-0 victory to put his side 3-1 up.

Match 5 (Mick Smith 2-3 Steve Ewington)
Match 5 saw a closely fought contest between Smith who was looking to win it for the Aces and Ewington looking to keep his team in with a shout. Smith started brightly going 2-0 in front and hitting a maximum but just as we thought he was a cert for victory back came Ewington with grit and determination after pulling one back he then rattled in a 21 darter to level the scores and take the game to a deciding leg which he held it all together and completed the comeback to win 3-2 to give his team a chance in the final game of the night.

Jordan Fisher(ACES)

Match 6 (Jordan Fisher 3-1 Matt Pryor)
The final match of the night saw Fisher take on Pryor who was looking to grab a draw for his team. The first 2 legs were shared and just as the game was running close Fisher stepped up a notch and the Sausages Captain Pryor just couldn't keep pace as Fisher wrapped it up for his team winning 3-1 and Aces winning 4-2 overall.

Over in Rotherham we saw the top two teams in the league All Stars with Captain Pete Senior and Black Eagles  with Captain Jason Burkhill battle it out both putting their undefeated starts to the season on the line with every game on paper too close to call.

Match 1 (Carl Wilkinson 0-3 Greg Beard)
The night started with All Stars Carl Wilkinson take on "The Titan" Greg Beard and it was "The Titan" who started well hitting back to back 21 dart legs including a 97 checkout to race in front 2-0. Wilkinson managed himself to hit a maximum but it was just not enough as Beard kept in his consistent run to win the game 3 legs to 0.

Match 2 (Mark Lawrence 0-3 Micky Stocks)
Stocks & Burkhill (Black Eagles)
Game 2 of the night saw Mark Lawrence looking to equalise for his side facing a tough nut to crack in Micky Stocks and it showed where Stocks hit the ground running starting off with a 15 dart leg and he never took his foot off the gas hitting a maximum and a high finish of 96 not to mention the excellently consistent 15/16 darter and winning the match on a 14 dart leg to give Lawrence no chance. 

Match 3 (Terry Temple 2-3 Steve Briggs)
In a very tightly fought contest in the third game of the night between Terry Temple and Steve Briggs which both players fought right to the end. Briggs kicked off holding throw with a classy 19 darter then quickly broke the Temple throw hitting a 20 dart leg but Temple wasn't going to lie down easily as he showed what he can do achieving a 20 and a 21 darter as well as a 93 finish for good measure to level scores and take it to a decider which saw Briggs keep his composure after letting a lead slip and fire home the winning double which left Temple's efforts all in vain as Black Eagles went into a 3-0 lead.

Match 4 (Darren Johnson 3-2 Simon Birkett)
"DJ" Daz Johnson went into his match against Simon Birkett knowing only victory will do to keep the All Stars in the contest but things didn't start well as Birkett broke throw in the very first leg with a 15 darter to put pressure straightaway on DJ. Dynamite fought back equalising with a 20 dart leg, back came Birkett this time hammering home a 16 darter and a 124 checkout to break the throw for the third leg in a row to lead 2-1. The fourth leg of the game saw Johnson step it up hitting a 17 dart leg to level after simon had missed darts at tops for the win to push this quality contest into a decider hitting a 132 checkout. The deciding leg was a battle which saw Daz hit a maximum to kick the leg off, Birkett tried to respond  hitting his own maximum but then Johnson went in for the kill finishing with a 93 checkout to win yet another quality contest between the teams with still more to come.

Match 5 (Tony Hull 2-3 Pete Daffin)
The 5th game of the night saw yet another close battle with the scores at 3-1 to Black Eagles "Super Daffs" Pete Daffin knew all he had to do was to defeat Tony Hull to win the game for his team but Hull was out to keep his team in with a shout of claiming a draw on the night and it showed as Hull kicked off breaking the Daffin throw in the very first leg of the game with an 18 dart leg to ease the nerves then in the second leg. Hull kept the consistency finishing the leg off in 19 darts to give himself a bit of breathing space but back came Daffin who finally found his range pulling a leg back and then in the fourth leg  bashed in a 19 darter to level the scores even though Hull missed darts for the win and force the game into a third consecutive decider on the night. In the final leg it went down to who could hold the nerve the best and when it came down to the crunch Daffin cleaned up hitting a maximum then winning the game with an 18 darter to finish off the game winning another close game 3-2 and give his team an unassailable 4-1 lead.

Match 6 (Tony Harper 0-3 Trevor Burkhill)
The final game of the night saw "Turbo" Trevor Burkhill turn on the style against Tony Harper. The first leg saw Trev kick off with a 19 darter to steady himself into the game and after that he never really gave Harper a chance following it up winning the second leg with a 16 with a maximum and then wrapping up the contest hitting a steady 17 dart leg giving himself a 3-0 victory and give Black Eagles a 5-1 win overall and inflict All Stars first defeat in the Franchise League and it kept Black Eagles soaring at the top.

Ed McCosh took his Academicals to travel to take on Andy Bradbury and  the Railwaymen  with just a place and 4 points separating both teams before the match began so a close game was expected.

Match 1 (Jordan Payne 3-0 Brad Clowery)
The night kicked off with Railwaymen's Jordan Payne taking on the Academicals Brad Clowery. Payne set off hitting a 21 dart leg against throw to open his account for the night and he wasn't finished after winning the second leg he thundered in yet another 21 darter and a 110 high finish to seal the game 3-0 and get the Railwaymen off and running.

Declan Parsons(Academicals)
Match 2 (Tom Gurran 1-3 Declan Parsons)
Declan Parsons was next on for the Academicals as he looked to level the game against "The Inferno" young Tom Gurran. Things didn't go to plan at the start for Parsons as Gurran took the first leg but Declan soon found his stride and equalised to level the score at 1-1. In the third leg was the turning point in the match as Parsons broke the Gurran throw with an 18 dart leg to go 2-1 in front and knowing all he had to do was hold throw in the fourth to win the game and he did just that under pressure to win the game 3-1 and equalise for Academicals.

Match 3 (Martin Scott 3-2 Oli Newall)
The third game of the night with the scores level at one a piece saw a closely fought contest between Railwaymen's Scott versus Newall in a match which saw both players have the lead only to be pegged back by their resilient opponent. The first leg kicked off with Scott breaking throw hitting a 21 dart leg to take the lead but Newall hit back and broke throw straight back to level up the score then Newall followed with a 21 darter in the third to take the lead but in the fourth back came Scott taking out the winning double to take the game to a deciding leg which saw Scott set off well and finally winning the game with a 20 darter to seal the victory and put his team back in front.

Match 4 (Mark Gurran 3-0 Matt Eardley)
Mark Gurran was fourth on for the home side as he took on Matt Eardley who was looking to level the scores again for the Academicals. Gurran looked strong from the off and rattled home the first leg and then he followed the second leg in the same vain of form. Eardley just couldn't cope with Gurran's consistent darts and he sailed home in style hitting a 17 dart leg to win 3-0 to put the Railwaymen in charge.

Match 5 (Pete Bramley 2-3 Adam Warner)
Pete Bramley versus Adam Warner was an epic contest for the people that saw the game. First off Warner hit a 19 dart leg and a maximum to take an early lead but back came Bramley hitting a 20 dart leg in return to level the scores at 1-1. Back came Warner as he held throw again to go 2-1 up with 2 to play. Bramley just wasn't going to lie down and showed true grit to level the scores back up and pushing the game to a decider which Warner held out and secured the 3-2 victory with another 19 dart leg in a game that showed that both players showed bottle and never gave up throughout.

Gav Pilling (Railwaymen)
Match 6 (Gav Pilling 3-2 Connor Bowler)
In the final match of the night with both teams still in with a chance of achieving something out of the game Gave Pilling and Academicals Connor Bowler locked horns in another close game. It started off with Pilling setting his stall out early hitting a 17 dart leg on throw then breaking straight after to go into a 2-0 lead but young Bowler showed a lot of character as he hit Pilling with back to back legs to make the game go all the way to the final leg of the night which Pilling showed more experience to take out the winning double and seal the 4-2 victory for the Railwaymen which saw them push for a top four place.



Vulcans 6-0 Magic

Anthony Warne 3-0 Lester Bowers

In another closely fought match up on paper saw 6th play 5th with just 3 points separating the two sides before the game.

Match 1 (Anthony Warne 3-0 Lester Bowers)
We kick off with Anthony Warne showing his capabilities against Lester Bowers. Warne started off well breaking the throw straightaway and then hitting a 21 dart leg to take a 2-0 lead and Bowers never found any rhythm in his game and Warne took advantage by winning convincingly 3 legs to 0.

Match 2 (Steve Stacey 3-1 Chris Markham)
In the second game, Captain Markham flew out of the traps hitting a maximum with his first 3 darts of the game and breaking throw straightaway but he couldn't manage to keep up his efforts and Stacey got back into the game breaking straight back to equalise then hitting an 18 dart leg to get in front and Stacey weren't to be denied as he finished off a cool performance with a 15 darter to win the match and a 140 high finish. 

Match 3 (Chris Grey 3-1 Steve Marfleet)
Chris Grey was next up to face a tough opponent in Steve Marfleet. Which proved straightaway as Marfleet held throw straight off to go in front early doors and hitting a 180 in the process. Grey hit back in the second leg to make the score 1-1 then the fireworks really started as Grey mustered up a 16 dart leg to break the throw and then followed it with a 15 darter plus a high 117 finish to seal victory and put Vulcans 3-0 up.

Match 4 (Daz Layden 3-0 Gav Markham)
Daz Layden threw some solid darts in his game over Gav Markham. The first leg Layden laid down a marker with a 19 dart leg and a maximum to get up and running. Layden then hit a 21 darter in the second to break throw and in the third and final leg Layden cleaned up taking out the winning double and give the Vulcans team victory with still two to play on the night.

Russ Lockwood (Vulcans)
Match 5 (Russ Lockwood 3-2 Paul Harris)
The final two games of the night saw four players really giving it their all. Paul Harris started the game well taking a 1-0 lead but after that Lockwood settled in and replied with a 13 dart leg with a 180 thrown in for good measure. In the third leg Lockwood followed it up with an 18 dart leg to go in front. This time it was Harris's turn to pull it back level breaking the Lockwood throw to give himself a chance in the decider but the victory was Lockwood's as he finished the game with a 15 darter against the throw to seal a 3-2 victory.

Match 6 (Matthew Gray 3-2 Chris Keane)
In the final game of the night saw another 3-2 contest between Matthew Gray and Keane with both men holding throw all game. First off Gray took the lead but Keane replied in kind. In the third leg of the contest Keane tried to break the Gray throw but to no avail again as the game went 2-1 to Gray. Keane then managed to equalise for the second time knowing then he had to do what he failed to do in the legs before it. Gray managed to hold his nerve in the final leg and grab a 3-2 victory in a match which saw both men holding throw all game and neither of them were going to back down and with that result gave the Vulcans a 6-0 victory for Jim Smith's Vulcans and leap frog Magic in the table.

Wilton Wizards travelled to the Woodbourne to play the Warriors which saw two out of the bottom three face off against each other with both teams looking to get their first win in the Franchise League.

Match 1 (Ian Webster 3-1 Tony Casril)
First up for the Warriors was Ian Webster against Wizards Tony Casril. Webster started well breaking throw in the very first leg of the game. After Casril broke back in the very next leg. Webster then went in the rampage and grabbed himself a 3-1 victory to give the Warriors the advantage.

Match 2 (Jodie Bruce 1-3 Sarah Gregory)
Up next was Jodie Bruce taking on Sarah Gregory. Jodie got off to a slow start which showed as Sarah raced into a 2-0 lead. Jodie managed to grab a leg on her throw but couldn't capitalise quick enough and Sarah grabbed the 3-1 victory to level the scores.

Nicola Warne (Warriors)
Match 3 (Nicola Warne 3-1 Mandy Slack)
In the third game of the night Nicola Warne faced Wizards' Mandy Slack. Nicola started the brightest winning the first two legs of the match with ease. Mandy managed to dig deep and pull a leg back to keep herself in contention but then Warne stepped it up in the final leg a 140 followed by a ton to set up the finish which she took out and got the victory to put the Warriors back in front.







Match 4 (Steve Newton 3-1 Michael Slack)
In the match between Newton and Michael Slack saw Slack start off steady taking the first leg to go in the lead, Newton then hit back made the game 1-1 then after that Newton stuck to his task as Michael fell away as Newton clinched a 3-1 victory and the Warriors take a 3-1 lead and with it guarantee that the Warriors won't be beaten tonight.

Match 5 (Paul Brittle 2-3 Simon Simmons)
In arguably the match of the night Paul Brittle stood toe to toe with Simon Simmons in a match that saw Brittle take the lead but in the second leg Simmons replied with a 21 dart leg against the throw to equalise. Then Simmons kept his confidence up to take the lead for the first time in the game but then it was "The Undertaker's" turn to reply back in the fourth leg to make the game into a one leg shootout which Simmons managing to hold his throw and win the game to bring the match back 3 games to 2 with it still all to play for in the final game of the night.

Match 6 (Sandra Webster 0-3 Lee Slack)
Lee Slack(Wizards)
The final game of the night saw what was the third decider of the weeks fixtures and it starred Sandra Webster against Lee Slack. Sandra started the game a bit nervous as Slack took advantage winning the first leg. Sandra then started hitting some steady scores but Slack kept his cool throughout and got a solid 3-0 victory and rescued a draw for the Wizards.

In the final match up of this weeks fixtures saw a Wolves team still searching for their first victory of the league season at home to face a solid Panthers team looking to make inroads and breaking into the top 3. 

Match 1 (Pat Finney 1-3 Brad Ellis)
Up first was Wolves' Pat Finney facing a tough match against Brad Ellis, Finney started the game brightly winning the first leg against the throw but Ellis then found his range and quickly turned the game on it's head quickly over-turning the deficit then smashing home the winning double to grab a 3-1 victory and put the Panthers 1-0 up.

Match 2 (Sue Edwards 0-3 John Lieber)
Next to toe the oche was Panthers captain John Lieber as he played the Woodbourne captain's wife Sue Edwards. Leiber started brightly with Sue struggling to grab a stranglehold on the game Lieber sailed through the game without a glitch giving a captains performance winning by 3 legs to 0.

Match 3 (John Edwards 0-3 Mick Hulley)
Third up was Wolves captain John Edwards looking to bring his side back into the game but Mick Hulley wasn't having any of it as he won the first leg then breaking the captain's throw in the second to set himself up for a resounding victory to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead at the halfway stage.

Ryan Goffin (Panthers)
Match 4 (Antonio Cruz 0-3 Ryan Goffin
Antonio Cruz was next up for the Wolves as he tried to chase down a steady Ryan Goffin. Cruz tried to stay in touch in the first leg doing well before Goffin pounced and hit the winning double to take the lead. In the second leg Goffin upped the ante a notch and secured himself an 18 darter to go further in front. In the final leg Goffin kept up the pressure in Cruz and delivered another 18 darter to wrap up the game and give his side guaranteed victory on the night.





Match 5 (John Smethurst 2-3 Mick Wood)
In the closest contest of the night saw Jon Smethurst take on Mick Wood. Smethurst started well quickly breaking the Wood throw but after that Wood kept plugging away breaking quickly back then doing one of his own to take a 2-1 lead but the game wasn't over yet as another twist to the game happened when this time it was Smethurst that broke throw to equalise and bring the match into it's only decider where it was Wood that snatched victory for his team winning by 3 legs to 2.

Match 6 (Steve Naisbitt 0-3 John Schultz)
The final match of the night saw Steve Naisbitt looking to put one on the board for the Wolves take on John Schultz. Schultz started well unfortunately for Naisbitt winning the first leg at a canter. Steve tried but in vain to get anything out of it for his team as Schultz ran riot and inflicted a 3-0 defeat to Naisbitt and give the triumphant Pat Meeson and his Panthers their fourth win in six matches.
